## **2ND CHANCE DOGS UK -** TRUSTEES’ REPORT

FOR THE PERIOD 1 JANUARY 2024 TO 31 DECEMBER 2024

## Charity Number 1183073

## _Summary of the objects of the Charity_

To promote humane behaviour towards dogs by assisting in the provision of appropriate care, protection, treatment and security for dogs which are in need of care and attention by reason of sickness, maltreatment, poor circumstances or ill usage and to educate the public in matters pertaining to dog welfare in general and the prevention of cruelty and suffering among dogs.

## _Summary of the main activities of the Charity_

The Charity provides support for the care and treatment of sick, injured and abandoned dogs leading to dogs finding homes and therefore improvement in animal welfare. Support and advice is also given to Adopters who have given homes to rescue dogs from Cyprus. Fundraising is done to support grant applications for the work which is ongoing in Cyprus and to provide support for any emergency veterinary or rescue back up which might be needed in the UK.

## _Summary of achievements during the period_

This Report covers the fifth full calendar year since 2ND CHANCE DOGS UK became a Registered UK Charity in April 2019.

During the year support, both physical and financial, was given to dogs who needed rehoming and also to dogs and their adopters who needed behaviourist and or vet support. As an organisation/charity we pride ourselves on our promise of “Lifetime Support” for all dogs who are adopted through us.

Our account with Barclays Bank is used to receive donations and to pay bills as well as our Charity’s PayPal account which is widely used and is a very valuable and useful way of collecting in donations and fundraising monies and also for transmitting money to Cyprus and other donees.

Our ability to register Microchips with PETtrac for the dogs who travel into the UK during the year is a valuable resource and Microchips are registered to the dogs’ new owners to coincide with entry into the UK.

Monies received from Easyfundraising and Amazon Smile are welcome additions to our income and PayPal Giving Fund, which also enables supporters to set up fundraisers for birthdays and special occasions with donations coming direct to the charity PayPal account without any fees being deducted, are very valuable.

## **In Loving Memory of Hannah Godfrey (1966–2024)**

In 2024 we were deeply saddened by the loss of a dear friend of our organisation and supporter, Hannah Godfrey. Hannah first met us as an adopter—she, her husband Ian, and their daughter Issy opened their hearts and home to one of our rescues, Ward (lovingly called Woody). From that moment on, Hannah became an unwavering advocate for 2nd Chance Dogs: sharing our posts, cheering our work, and giving Woody the most devoted home.

In Hannah’s memory, her family created a tribute fund and raised the remarkable sum of £10,047.06, which they generously donated to 2nd Chance Dogs.

These funds will build the **Hannah Godfrey Puppy Section** at our new rescue centre in Cyprus, scheduled for construction in 2026. This dedicated area will include four whelping kennels to provide safe refuge for pregnant dogs and for puppies rescued into our care—offering them a gentle start, in **Hannah’s name** .

From all of us at 2nd Chance Dogs, our heartfelt thanks go to Ian and Issy and of course Dear Hannah. Your kindness will change countless little lives. We look forward to welcoming you to Cyprus to see the new rescue centre—and the **Hannah Godfrey Puppy Section** —when it is complete. May God Bless you!

## **Design of Our New Rescue Center in Cyprus**

In 2024, we advanced the design of our new rescue center in Cyprus—a purpose-built, people-friendly space designed to welcome the community and change perceptions about rescue shelters. Set on 33,000 m², the center will accommodate up to 80 dogs and include a dedicated training barn, expansive outdoor areas for sunshine and fresh air, a puppy wing, an intake area, and a calm meet-and-greet zone where adopters can connect with their future companions. Plans also feature a self-sustained veterinary practice and several large dog parks, inviting visitors to bring their own dogs to play while they volunteer or explore adoption.

We recognize the path ahead will be challenging, as full funding is not yet secured. Nevertheless, we remain committed to delivering this project and are working toward opening the new center by 2027.
