2ND CHANCE DOGS UK - TRUSTEES’ REPORT

FOR THE PERIOD 1 JANUARY 2023 TO 31 DECEMBER 2023

Charity Number 1183073

Summary of the objects of the Charity

To promote humane behaviour towards dogs by assisting in the provision of appropriate care, protection, treatment and security for dogs which are in need of care and attention by reason of sickness, maltreatment, poor circumstances or ill usage and to educate the public in matters pertaining to dog welfare in general and the prevention of cruelty and suffering among dogs.

Summary of the main activities of the Charity

The Charity provides support for the care and treatment of sick, injured and abandoned dogs leading to dogs finding homes and therefore improvement in animal welfare. Support and advice is also given to Adopters who have given homes to rescue dogs from Cyprus. Fundraising is done to support grant applications for the work which is ongoing in Cyprus and to provide support for any emergency veterinary or rescue back up which might be needed in the UK.

Summary of achievements during the period

This Report covers the Fourth full calendar year since 2ND CHANCE DOGS UK became a Registered UK Charity in April 2019.

During the year support, both physical and financial, was given to dogs who needed rehoming and also to dogs and their adopters who needed behaviourist and or vet support. As an organisation/charity we pride ourselves on our promise of “Lifetime Support” for all dogs who are adopted through us.

Our account with Barclays Bank is used to receive donations and to pay bills as well as our Charity’s PayPal account which is widely used and is a very valuable and useful way of collecting in donations and fundraising monies and also for transmitting money to Cyprus and other donees.

Our ability to register Microchips with PETtrac for the dogs who travel into the UK during the year is a valuable resource and Microchips are registered to the dogs’ new owners to coincide with entry into the UK.

Monies received from Easyfundraising and Amazon Smile are welcome additions to our income and PayPal Giving Fund, which also enables supporters to set up fundraisers for birthdays and special occasions with donations coming direct to the charity PayPal account without any fees being deducted, are very valuable.

Rowan Chattock took over the role of trustee with an oversight of fundraising part way through the year and would like to thank Elizabeth Weitscher for all her efforts in supporting Rowan Chattock in 2023. As is often the case fundraising has been a challenge this in 2023 but we have has some amazing volunteers who have helped with the fundraising and offered their time and skills.

The fund-raising events have included, A winners choice event early the year. A puppy race and reindeer race. An autumn auction followed by an online Christmas bazaar which included a collaboration with Snatch’s Snacks as well as lots of our adopters and follows hand making and crafting items which were sold to raise much needed funds. We have also raised funds for

collection tins, the sale of bandannas and mugs, an easter raffle and even a dog show. As well as a sponsored walk by our junior fundraisers.

We would like to thank Denise Quail for her fabulous bandannas and Christmas

stockings. Zena Kahn for all she has done as well as her amazing work at the dog show. Lee Winter has also been a very generous donator of his personal crafting expertise donating items to both the Auction and Christmas bazaar, such was key chains, a wonderful clock and coasters.

We would also like to highlight the work of the Junior fundraisers and their amazing mum Jenna Davy. Then there is my amazing team of fundraising fairies who have worked to both support Rowan Chattock and bring out a very successful calendar for 2024, going above and beyond when we had issues with the printers. So a big thank you to Nicole Gusha, Clare Burn and Kerry Smith. Finally we would like to thank everyone who contributed to the auction and bazaar either by bidding / ordering items and especially those who contributed items.

2023 was a difficult year for everyone due to the increase in the cost of living which has resulted in fewer dogs being adopted from our Centre in Cyprus and despite the level of income to our Charity was lower, we were able to successfully support the dogs in Cyprus.

Special Thanks to Departing Trustees

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our outgoing trustees for their invaluable contributions to 2nd Chance Dogs UK:

We sincerely thank each of you for your dedication, passion, and hard work. Your efforts have been instrumental in shaping our organization, and we deeply appreciate all that you have done for 2nd Chance Dogs UK.
