2ND CHANCE DOGS UK - TRUSTEES’ REPORT

FOR THE PERIOD 1 JANUARY 2022 TO 31 DECEMBER 2022

Charity Number 1183073

Summary of the objects of the Charity

To promote humane behaviour towards dogs by assisting in the provision of appropriate care, protection, treatment and security for dogs which are in need of care and attention by reason of sickness, maltreatment, poor circumstances or ill usage and to educate the public in matters pertaining to dog welfare in general and the prevention of cruelty and suffering among dogs.

Summary of the main activities of the Charity

The Charity provides support for the care and treatment of sick, injured and abandoned dogs leading to dogs finding homes and therefore improvement in animal welfare. Support and advice is also given to Adopters who have given homes to rescue dogs from Cyprus. Fundraising is done to support grant applications for the work which is ongoing in Cyprus and to provide support for any emergency veterinary or rescue back up which might be needed in the UK.

Summary of achievements during the period

This Report covers the third full calendar year since 2ND CHANCE DOGS UK became a Registered UK Charity in April 2019.

During the year support, both physical and financial, was given to dogs who needed rehoming and also to dogs and their adopters who needed behaviourist and or vet support. As an organisation/charity we pride ourselves on our promise of “Lifetime Support” for all dogs who are adopted through us.

Our account with Barclays Bank is used to receive donations and to pay bills as well as our Charity’s PayPal account which is widely used and is a very valuable and useful way of collecting in donations and fundraising monies and also for transmitting money to Cyprus and other donees.

Our ability to register Microchips with PETtrac for the dogs who travel into the UK during the year is a valuable resource and Microchips are registered to the dogs’ new owners to coincide with entry into the UK.

Monies received from Easyfundraising and Amazon Smile are welcome additions to our income and PayPal Giving Fund, which also enables supporters to set up fundraisers for birthdays and special occasions with donations coming direct to the charity PayPal account without any fees being deducted, are very valuable.

Fundraising during the year has not been easy and has been varied with auctions and raffles/draws. We are blessed with supporters who are generous with their time and money particularly Kerry Smith who raised money for us by walking the 3 Peaks Challenge and a small group of our adopters who joined our second Sponsored Walk Challenge “60 Miles in September/October”. Unfortunately, the Dog Show at which Zena Khan was holding a fundraising stall in September was cancelled at short notice out of respect for our sadly departed Queen. Hopefully, this event will be rescheduled for next year.

A 2023 2nd Chance Dogs Calendar was produced by a new team of volunteers “The Calendar Fairies” which again featured photos of adopted 2nd Chance dogs. Calendar sales provide a major part of yearend fundraising and we were extremely grateful to Claire Burn, Nicole Gusha and Kerry Smith for their teamwork and particularly Claire who sponsored the printing of the calendars.

2022 was a difficult year for everyone due to the increase in the cost of living added to after effects of Corona Virus which has resulted in fewer dogs being adopted from our Centre in Cyprus and despite the level of income to our Charity was lower, we were able to successfully support the dogs in Cyprus.
