2ND CHANCE DOGS UK - TRUSTEES’ REPORT

FOR THE PERIOD 1 JANUARY 2020 TO 31 DECEMBER 2020

Charity Number 1183073

Summary of the objects of the Charity

To promote humane behaviour towards dogs by assisting in the provision of appropriate care, protection, treatment and security for dogs which are in need of care and attention by reason of sickness, maltreatment, poor circumstances or ill usage and to educate the public in matters pertaining to dog welfare in general and the prevention of cruelty and suffering among dogs.

Summary of the main activities of the Charity

The Charity provides support for the care and treatment of sick, injured and abandoned dogs leading to dogs finding homes and therefore improvement in animal welfare. Support and advice is also given to Adopters who have given homes to rescue dogs from Cyprus. Fundraising is done to support grant applications for the work which is ongoing in Cyprus and to provide support for any emergency veterinary or rescue back up which might be needed in the UK.

Appointment of Additional Trustees

The Charity has been very fortunate and happy to welcome Rebecca Liebman and Zena Khan as new Trustees during the year. Both ladies are longstanding Adopters and supporters of 2nd Chance Dogs and will bring valuable skills to our Charity.

Correction to Accounts for last period

In the Statement of Accounts for the previous period (23.04.2019-31.12.2019) the total year end balance of the Paypal and Barclays Accounts of £427.50 was correct. However, the individual balances were transposed. The figures should have read – Paypal Account balance as at 31.12.2019 £150.32. Barclays Bank Account balance as at 31.12.2019 £277.18

Summary of achievements during the period

This Report covers the first full calendar year since 2ND CHANCE DOGS UK became a Registered UK Charity in April of last year.

One of our aims is fundraising to support requests for grants of funds from 2nd Chance Dogs in Cyprus and other deserving causes associated with our charity as and when required.

Our bank account with Barclays Bank provides a very useful alternative to receive income and to pay bills, however since our free banking period ended in October monthly bank charges occur. Our Charity’s PayPal account is widely used and is a very valuable and useful way of collecting in donations and fundraising monies and also for transmitting money to Cyprus and other donees.

During the year 2nd Chance Dogs UK has become registered with PETtrac so we are able to register Microchips of our dogs who travel into the UK. We are also able to offer a period of 4 weeks’ free pet insurance through Petplan to Adopters who wish to take advantage of this.

Also during the year support, both physical and financial, was given to dogs who needed rehoming and also one dog who was missing for over 2 weeks and was successfully trapped and reunited with his family. As an organisation/charity we pride ourselves on our promise of “Lifetime Support” for all dogs who are adopted through us.

Monies received from Easyfundraising, Amazon Smile and occasionally Just Giving, are welcome additions to our income and PayPal Giving Fund, which also enables supporters to set up fundraisers for birthdays and special occasions with donations coming direct to the charity PayPal account without any fees being deducted, are very valuable.

Fundraising during the year has been varied with 2 very successful auctions and raffles/draws. Our new Trustee and longstanding friend Zena Khan has written a second vegan recipe book entitled “Honestly, It’s Vegan Too”. with all profits from the sale of this book being donated to help 2nd Chance Dogs. The two books Zena has written have been very well received and very much appreciated, raising substantial funds for our Charity.

The 2nd Chance Dogs Calendar 2021 was produced which included photos of adopted 2nd Chance dogs. 250 copies were ordered, 205 being sold in the UK (extra 5 received from printers) and 50 Calendars were despatched to Cyprus for sale there. Calendar sales provide a major part of yearend fundraising when funds might otherwise be in short supply leading up to Christmas.

Despite 2020 being a difficult year due to restrictions relating to Corona Virus, with a lot of hard work the year for fundraising has been surprisingly successful. As the number of dogs being adopted into the UK from Cyprus continued and increased during the year so did the number of our supporters and the size of our Adopter Family.
