## **HRCA Chair’s Annual report, AGM April 2024**

## **The Hall and it’s place in the community**

The community centre continues to be very well used and we have been delighted to welcome more users to the centre now that there is additional capacity during the day. We now have a very full timetable. The Haywood Road Pre-School continues to be our main user and that relationship continues to build with the help of Val and her support. In addition, we now have many other regular groups using the centre throughout each week.

Having the extra room capacity has been really successful and meant we have been able to offer spaces to more groups at a time. As it stands, Friday evening and Saturday are the only times we don’t have a regular booking. However, we continue to take regular bookings for parties and there continues to be frequent booking requests coming through and managed by Val.

In light of recent events, we were pleased again that the centre could act as a collection point for provisions needed and collected with special thanks to Val and Natasha for coordinating and offer some support to allow the local community to make their donations to add to the efforts of those getting much needed support to those in need in Ukraine.

What has struck me this year more than ever is the importance of the community centre as a place to bring people together and as a hub where people can reach out to support others.

## **The Management Committee and Trustees**

We are lucky to have a committed group who ensure the running of the centre and its provision to the wider community. Members of our steering group continue to support the centre throughout the year, offering fundraising opportunities and using the centre as a meeting point for various community initiatives. We would like to invite people to join our group of trustees and steering group, we are a small group and would welcome newcomers.

## **The building and services**

As you will note, the floor has now been replaced and we have been able to reduce some of the running costs we inherited, thanks to Val’s management And Val continues to manage all services to the centre. The addition of WiFi access has been well received and brings us up to date with the expectations of modern users, allowing us to keep up with other community centres.

## **Fundraising**

We are grateful for all the fundraising done for the centre. Each yer the silent disco raises significant funds for the centre. Last year’s event was well anticipated amongst the local community and ticket sales sold out within hours. With great thanks to Natasha Williams and Paul Drury for organising the event and with the help of the team of volunteers who supported at the event, we were able to raise over £2000 profit on ticket sales and bar sales. Such events

are vital for the centre to raise much needed funds, and we are delighted that there will be another this year.

## **The future**

In the year ahead we look forward to supporting our continued user groups, welcoming new users, and seeing community events thrive to ensure we remain a place at the heart of our community.

## **Thank you**

All in all it has been another good year for the community centre. We continue to be blessed with avid supporters, loyal users and along with our committee, ensure our community centre continues to be well run and used by our community. Thank you to our committee and steering group for their continued enthusiasm and our users for ensuring our centre is so well used.

But I must give a special mention to Val, who tirelessly does an amazing job as our caretaker, ensuring the day to day running of the centre is as smooth as possible, as well as managing all bookings from enquiries to the event. I would also like to give thanks to Maria Narducci for all the support she gives in ensuring we stay visible and relevant on social media. There is no doubt this puts us in a good position to stay at the forefront of our local community.
