ANNUAL REPORT & FINANCIAL STATEMENTS YEAR ENDED 31.10.22

Reference and Administrative Information

During this period , the appointed trustees were Gary Brookes (Chairman),Mike Mackey (Treasurer), Danny Longhorne, Richard Biddle Martin Ball and Paul Heron. However, during this reporting period, Danny Longhorne has resigned due to work commitments and Anthony Cottrell was appointed as an additional trustee. There are therefore a total of 6 trustees.

Overview

The Andy Biddle Youth Sports Foundation (ABYSF) is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation formed to honour the late Andy Biddle who died suddenly at the age of 52 in June 2018. He was a popular local sportsman who represented Sutton Coldfield’s football and cricket clubs, and other clubs, with distinction over many years and had a particular interest in the development of youth sport in the Royal Town. The charity’s aim is to help fund youth sport in Sutton Coldfield for the public benefit, in particular, football and cricket, sports dear to Andy. The activities of the charity are to achieve these aims by fundraising and inviting grant applications to be considered by the trustees periodically. The charitable objects are to promote the participation of young people under the age of 18 years in amateur sport in Sutton Coldfield and the surrounding area by making grants to, in particular but not exclusively to community amateur sports clubs, other amateur sports clubs and schools providing facilities for amateur sport; and amateur individuals, with a particular focus on football and cricket, in memory of Andy Biddle.

During the period to which this report pertains, the trustees received applications from a number of sports and activities not related to football and cricket. It should be noted that the trustees considered the above phrase “particular focus” into account when deciding upon the merits of grant applications.

Formation and Trustees

Charitable status was achieved on 11.04.19. The charity’s bankers are HSBC.

As stated above there have been changes to the trustees. Danny Longhorne resigned and Anthony Cottrell became a trustee on 1 November 2022.

Accounts

Receipt and payments accounts prepared by Mike Mackey and verified by Gary Brookes (and attached to this report) show receipts of £17603.00 which reflects the major fundraising detailed below. The payments figure of £12933 was largely accounted for by payments of grants and the cost of fundraising events.

Fundraising

We held another successful Bids Ball on the 13 May 2022 and the well attended event was a significant fundraiser . This was then followed by Bids Day held at Sutton Cricket club 23 July 2022 this was both a fundraiser and an opportunity to present to those successful Sports clubs and individuals who had received grants over the last twelve months. Fundraising included the sale of charity badges, a BBQ kindly run by Gary Camp, and a raffle where numerous prizes were donated.

The charity was indebted to Wates Family enterprise trust who again donated 2 x £500 and several Christmas gifts during the period.

The charity is also grateful for individual donations made during the reporting period, further charity badge sales, a Cheltenham Races fundraiser and other, small amounts raised in various ways by supporters.

The final fundraising event during this period was a Race Night held at Streetly Cricket Club November 2022 organised by Martin Ball Trustee. Funds were raised through the sale of horses and a raffle.

We would also like to thank Richard Hall for donations to the charity from his book The Story of the FA Cup.

Grants

Due to the relative lack of fundraising through 2020 due to Covid-19, it had already been decided by the trustees that there could be no Winter 2020/21 grant process, albeit particular hardship cases could be considered. However, the trustees were keen to hold a full Summer 2021 process. Grant applications were received and the trustees decided to make the following grant payments:

Little Sutton Junior Netball Team £1,380 – assistance to gain coaching qualifications.

Sportsco FC Juniors £1,000 – coaching fees.

Bishop Vesey School £1,500 – provision of kit and equipment for new football team.

Sutton Coldfield Town FC Under 18s £450 – provision of kit.

Additional Comments

The trustees are again grateful to the charity’s supporters and volunteers who have contributed so much financially, but also in time and effort. In particular, Lisa Hickin has provided magnificent support to the charity in many ways, including seeking additional revenue.
