ANDY BIDDLE YOUTH SPORTS FOUNDATION

Registered Charity 1182935

ANNUAL REPORT & FINANCIAL STATEMENTS YEAR ENDED 31.10.21

Reference and AdministraKve InformaKon

Since the charity’s incep/on, the appointed trustees were Paul Heron (Chairman), Mike Mackey (Treasurer), Danny Longhorne, Richard Biddle and Gary Brookes. However, during this repor/ng period, and following his reloca/on to Yorkshire, Paul Heron resigned as Chairman to be replaced by Gary Brookes.

Paul Heron remains a trustee and, also during this repor/ng period, Mar/n Ball was appointed as an addi/onal trustee. There are therefore a total of 6 trustees.

Overview

The Andy Biddle Youth Sports Founda/on (ABYSF) is a Charitable Incorporated Organisa/on formed to honour the late Andy Biddle who died suddenly at the age of 52 in June 2018. He was a popular local sportsman who represented SuUon Coldfield’s football and cricket clubs, and other clubs, with dis/nc/on over many years and had a par/cular interest in the development of youth sport in the Royal Town. The charity’s aim is to help fund youth sport in SuUon Coldfield for the public benefit, in par/cular, football and cricket, sports dear to Andy. The ac/vi/es of the charity are to achieve these aims by fundraising and invi/ng grant applica/ons to be considered by the trustees periodically. The charitable objects are to promote the par/cipa/on of young people under the age of 18 years in amateur sport in SuUon Coldfield and the surrounding area by making grants to, in par/cular but not exclusively to community amateur sports clubs, other amateur sports clubs and schools providing facili/es for amateur sport; and amateur individuals, with a par/cular focus on football and cricket, in memory of Andy Biddle.

During the period to which this report pertains, the trustees received applica/ons from a number of sports and ac/vi/es not related to football and cricket. It should be noted that the trustees considered the above phrase “par/cular focus” into account when deciding upon the merits of grant applica/ons.

FormaKon and Trustees

Charitable status was achieved on 11.04.19. The charity’s bankers are HSBC.

As stated above there have been changes to the trustees. Gary Brookes took over from Paul Heron as Chairman on 13.04.21. Mar/n Ball became a trustee on 03.06.21.

Fundraising

As with most chari/es, fundraising during this repor/ng period was severely affected by Covid-19. For the second year running, the “Bids Ball”, a significant fundraiser, was cancelled. However, the trustees and the charity’s supporters sought to maximise what fundraising was possible. Following an easing of restric/ons in summer 2021, “Bids Day” on 31.07.21 at SuUon Coldfield Cricket Club went ahead where grant monies were paid out and some fundraising was possible including the sale of charity badges, a BBQ kindly run by Gary Camp, and a raffle where numerous prizes were donated.

The charity was indebted to 2 companies in par/cular for their generous dona/ons during the period. Construc/on recruitment firm O’Neill & Brennan made a significant dona/on, and construc/on company The Wates Group provided two amounts of funding under the Wates Family Enterprise Trust.

The charity is also grateful for individual dona/ons made during the repor/ng period, further charity badge sales, a Cheltenham Races fundraiser and other, small amounts raised in various ways by supporters.

Shortly aier this repor/ng period, a music night similar to that held in Autumn 2020 at SuUon Coldfield Golf Club was planned for November 2021.

Accounts

Receipt and payments accounts prepared by Mike Mackey and verified by Gary Brookes (and aUached to this report) show receipts of £3,474.00 which reflects the lack of fundraising opportuni/es during Cov-19, notwithstanding the generous company dona/ons referred to above. The payments figure of £1,753.00 was largely accounted for by payments of outstanding grants.

Grants

Due to the rela/ve lack of fundraising through 2020 due to Covid-19, it had already been decided by the trustees that there could be no Winter 2020/21 grant process, albeit par/cular hardship cases could be considered. However, the trustees were keen to hold a full Summer 2021 process. Grant applica/ons were received and the trustees decided to make the following grant payments:

LiQle SuQon Junior Netball Team £1,380 – assistance to gain coaching qualifica/ons.

Sportsco FC Juniors £1,000 – coaching fees.

Bishop Vesey School £1,500 – provision of kit and equipment for new football team.

SuQon Coldfield Town FC Under 18s £450 – provision of kit.

AddiKonal Comments

The trustees are again grateful to the charity’s supporters and volunteers who have contributed so much financially, but also in /me and effort. In par/cular, Lisa Hickin has provided magnificent support to the charity in many ways, including seeking addi/onal revenue. This helped the charity to overcome

funding shortages during the challenging Covid-19 period.
