ANDY BIDDLE YOUTH SPORTS FOUNDATION

Registered Charity 1182935

ANNUAL REPORT & FINANCIAL STATEMENTS YEAR ENDED 31.10.20.

Reference and Administrative Information

Since the charity’s inception, the appointed trustees have been Paul Heron (Chairman), Mike Mackey (Treasurer), Danny Longhorne, Richard Biddle and Gary Brookes.

Overview

The Andy Biddle Youth Sports Foundation (ABYSF) is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation formed to honour the late Andy Biddle who died suddenly at the age of 52 in June 2018. He was a popular local sportsman who represented Sutton Coldfield’s football and cricket clubs with distinction over many years and had a particular interest in the development of youth sport in the Royal Town. The charity’s aim is to help fund youth sport in Sutton Coldfield for the public benefit, in particular football and cricket, sports dear to Andy. The activities of the charity are to achieve these aims by fundraising and inviting grant applications to be considered by the trustees periodically. The charitable objects are to promote the participation of young people under the age of 18 years in amateur sport in Sutton Coldfield and the surrounding area by making grants to, in particular but not exclusively to community amateur sports clubs, other amateur sports clubs and schools providing facilities for amateur sport and amateur individuals, with a particular focus on football and cricket, in memory of Andy Biddle.

Formation and Trustees

The idea of a charity began in the weeks after Andy’s death and the first committee meeting took place on 09.10.18. An application to the Charity Commission was made and a community bank account applied for and obtained. Charitable status was obtained on 11.04.19. The charity’s bankers are HSBC.

There were no changes to the trustees during this reporting period. However please note additional comments below.

Fundraising

The final fundraising event during the last reporting period (up to 31.10.19) was the successful Lorraine Brown music night at Sutton Coldfield Golf Club. The only further fundraiser during this reporting period was the Christmas Fayre in November 2019. There were no further significant events during the rest of 2019, with the next fundraiser the “Bids Ball”, planned for March 2020.

However, due to the Covid-19 outbreak, this and other planned events were cancelled.

Accounts

Receipts and payments accounts prepared by M Mackey and verified by P Heron (and attached to this report) show receipts at £2,998.00 and payments at £3,781.00. The low receipts figure reflects the charity’s inability to raise funds during the pandemic. The accounting period includes the grant process in winter 2019/20 as detailed below, albeit some of the funds granted were paid in the following accounting period. The charity continues to have no paid employees.

Grants

WINTER 2019/20

Blackwood School £1,000 – installation of play and sports area.

Colron FC Juniors £1,000 – coaching courses and kit for 2 new teams. NB. Due to only 1 new team being created the amount of £562.32 was returned to the charity.

Boldmere St Michaels Fc Juniors £1,300 – training aids and other equipment

SJB Girls FC £370 – provision of kit and first aid equipment

Four Oaks Saints CC Juniors £960 – coaching courses.

Sutton Coldfield Netball Girls £1,000 – coaching courses and equipment.

Additional Comments

In relation to this reporting period, there were no significant fundraising activities due to Covid-19 after November 2019. The trustees decided there could be no summer 2020 grant process and subsequently no Winter 2020 grant process due to being unable to raise funds, albeit particular hardship cases could be considered.

The trustees are again grateful to the charity’s supporters and volunteers who have contributed so much since the charity was formed. In particular, Lisa Hickin has again provided invaluable support. The next annual report ending 31.10.21 will include a change of Chairman to Gary Brookes and an additional trustee in Martin Ball
