Report of the trustees for the year ending 5 April 2024
The trustees are pleased to present their annual report together with the statement of financial activity for the charity for the year ending 5 April 2024.
Charitable Objectives
Isikoza is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation, established to:
-
Advance the education of the general public in the appreciation and understanding of music and its history; with special emphasis on Jazz and Popular Music
-
Provision of performance workshops and training
-
Programming of educational performances (recitals)
OBJECTIVES AND AIMS
Isikoza is committed to enabling people from diverse backgrounds access to ‘inspiring and practical’ educational training in the fields of jazz and popular music.
The charity aims to achieve this by:
-
Designing and implementing creative music modules for adults who desire greater comprehension and understanding in jazz theory and improvisation
-
Provision of music workshops for instruments greatly utilised in Popular Music (Electric Bass, Electric Guitar, Acoustic Drums, & Electric Piano)
-
Programming of educational performances (recitals) in Churches, Community Centres & Open Spaces
ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFORMANCE
In the financial period April 2023 to April 2024 we have:
-
Formulated new working partnerships with several churches in Stoke on Trent (Church of England, Methodist and Pentecostal)
-
Consultations for BBC Radio Stoke Easter Service
-
Contacted our local Councillor and Stoke on Trent City Council for support regarding the possibility of acquiring a Community Asset (Building)
Consultant for BBC RADIO STOKE Easter Service
Our Chair was contacted by Rev Geoff Eze to assist with programming BBC Radio Stokes’ flagship programme Eze on Sunday. The consultations in question, revolved around how to implement the Easter Service from BBC Radio Stoke, which would be broadcast to the nation on Easter Sunday. The consultations proved to be highly successful, resulting in a tremendous broadcast for Easter Sunday.
Community Assets (Buildings)
Our charity, have again received an opportunity via Stoke City Council to view empty premises, in our local ward. The buildings may be of assistance to the local community if they are utilised efficiently. To this end we have arranged several viewings in conjunction with the council to further explore what is the best way forward for this potential proposal.
Partnership with Hanley Ministry (Church of England)
The chair of Isikoza has had opportunity to meet the Rector of Hanley Ministry Team. The meetings proved to be extremely fruitful, with the possibility of programming diverse and informative music recitals in several of the churches in the portfolio of Hanley Ministry Team. Because of the nature of the acoustics of these edifices it was suggested to trial ‘low key’ rehearsals in the space to gather workable data.
FUTURE
All of the above projects were again delivered with the charity receiving no financial remuneration. To address this pressing matter we will formulate strong partnerships with organisation who have received funding, and who are financially accountable with the Charity Commission.
