HOPE HOUSING BRIDLINGTON Financial statements for the year to 5 April 2024 Independent Examiner's Report
I report to the charity trustees on my examination of the accounts of the Hope Housing Bridlington for the year ended 5 April 2024.
Responsibilities and basis of report
As the charity trustees you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 ( "The Act" ).
I report in respect of my examination of the accounts carried out under Section 145 of the Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under Section 145(5)(b) of the Act.
Independent Examiner's statement
I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect:
-
accounting records were not kept in respect of the charity as required by Section 130 of the Act; or
-
the accounts do not accord with those records; or
-
the accounts do not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and content of accounts set out in the Charities ( Accounts and Reports ) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a true and fair view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination.
I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.

HOPE HOUSING BRIDLINGTON Financial statements for the year to 5 April 2024
Trustees' Report
The trustees of Hope Housing Bridlington are:-
Rev. Mark Jonathan Carey Heather Bingley Rev. Jean Elsie Fowler Rev. Richard William Hare Dr. Anthony John Clarke Anne Hinchliffe Rev. Danny Walker Rev. Neil Bowler (appointed 29th September, 2023)
Statement of Trustees' responsibilities
The law applicable to charities in England and Wales requires the trustees to prepare financial statements for each financial year. In preparing those financial statements the trustees are required to:-
-
select suitable accounting policies and then apply them consistently;
-
make judgements and estimates which are reasonable and prudent;
-
state which accounts have been prepared in accordance with the Statement of Recommended Practice - Accounting by Charities; and
-
prepare the accounts on the going concern basis unless it is inappropriate to presume that the concern will continue in operation.
The trustees are required to act within the framework of trust law and the Charities Acts, and are also responsible for keeping proper accounting records. The trustees have a general responsibility for taking such steps as are reasonably open to them to safeguard the assets of the funds and to prevent and detect fraud and other irregularities.
Objectives and activities
The objectives and activities of the organisation are to continue to support
and house homeless and vulnerable people in Bridlington and the surrounding district through its partnership with Green Pastures.
Green Pastures is a Christian Charity which provides the investment and expertise needed to provide that accommodation.

Trustees' Report-continued
The two leased houses, which have been leased through Green Pastures on Thorpe Street and Havelock Street, Bridlington, have continued to be run efficiently during the year. However, due to the Housing Support Officer's ongoing health issues and his request for his hours to be reduced to 20 hours per week, a second Housing Support Officer was appointed, in November 2023, to work 10 hours.
In support of the Housing Support Officers, the Trustees have meetings with them every two months, as well as Rev Richard Hare supporting them daily. Reports are brought to the meetings which include a building report, report on achievements reached with the residents and the reporting of any on-going problems that they are encountering with the residents.
The Trustees of the Charity take their responsibilities seriously and all policies needed in relation to running a Charity of this type are in force. These include:-
DBC policy Dignity and Diversity policy GDPR and Privacy policy Grievance procedure Health and Safety policy Whistleblower policy
Public benefit
The Trustees of the Charity are mainly made up of Clergy and Lay Ministers from the Churches in the Deanery of Bridlington. Through mission and outreach work in their parishes the Trustees are endeavouring to ease the situation of those sleeping rough on the streets of Bridlington and elsewhere and thereby ease the homelessness situation in the town.
Financial report
The accounts for the year to 5th April, 2024 show £33 excess of receipts over payments. The Charity continues to face challenges with financial issues both with the upkeep of the two properties and also the difficulty in recruiting suitable residents.
The monthly income lost from one empty room per month amounts to between £750
and £798.
Lost income from empty rooms has cost the Charity a total of £4,110 during the year. The loss of income from empty rooms seriously affects the Trustees ability to improve the financial resources of the Charity and therefore impacts on the Charity's long term financial resilience.
3
HOPE HOUSING BRIDLINGTON Financial statements for the year to 5 April 2024
Trustees' Report-continued
Each property has had to have major and costly improvements.
Some requirements have been new boilers, structural work and a complete refurbishment of one of the bedrooms. Much of this cost, as well as help towards the cost of the wages of the Housing Support Officers, has been met by grants totalling £7,000.
The names of the Trusts/Organisations who have kindly supported Hope Housing with Grants during the year are:-
Reckitts Grantscape Bridlington Charity Trustees Help the Homeless
In addition to this, Churches in the Town of Bridlington, individual donations and regular giving by Direct Debit payments from individuals, amounts to £9,200. Without this financial support the Charity could not continue.
The Trustees have also arranged fund raising events in the year and this has raised a further £1,400. Other new initiatives are planned for fund raising throughout the forthcoming year.
Future plans
There is much optimism for the success and future of the Charity with perhaps a third house being sought. But the Trustees do realise that this will be a challenge and can only be achieved by the continued support of Grants, financial giving, volunteers and prayer.
Approved by order of the board of trustees on and signed on its behalf by:
Reverend Mark Jonathan Carey

HOPE HOUSING BRIDLINGTON Financial statements for the year to 5 April 2023
Independent Examiner's Report
I report on the accounts of the Hope Housing Bridlington charity for the year to 5 April 2023, which are set out on pages 4 to 7.
Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner
The Charity's trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The Charity's trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144(2) of the Charities Act 2011 and that an independent examination is needed. It is my responsibility to:
(a) examine the accounts under section 145 of the Charities Act 2011;
(b) follow the procedures laid down in the general Directions given by the Charity Commission ( under section 145(5)(b) of the Charities Act 2011); and
(c) state whether any particular matters have come to my attention.
Basis of the independent examiner's report
My examination was carried out in accordance with the general Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a true and fair view, and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.
Independent examiner's statement
In the course of my examination no matter has come to my attention:
-
(1) which gives me reasonable cause to believe that, in any material respect, the trustees have not met the requirements to ensure that:
-
(a) proper accounting records are kept ( in accordance with section 130 of the Charities Act 2011 ; and
-
(b) accounts are prepared which agree with the accounting records and comply with the accounting requirements of the Charities Act 2011; or
-
(2) to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper
understanding of the accounts to be reached.

Trustees' Report continued....
Review of the period
The organisation continues to support and house homeless and vulnerable people in Bridlington and the surrounding district through its partnership with Green Pastures, a Christian charity that provides the investment and expertise needed to provide that accommodation.
The two leased houses, on Thorpe Street and Havelock Street, Bridlington, continue to be run smoothly and efficiently by the Housing Support Officer with the support of the Trustees. The Trustees are pleased to report that the Housing Support Officer now has additional support by a volunteer working alongside him, the volunteer having a real heart for the homeless and the work Hope Housing is doing.
During the year the Trustees were highly delighted when one of the residents moved into independent living.
The Charity has faced difficult challenges during the year and sadly two of its residents have had to be evicted. Also towards the end of the year one of the residents sadly died. Their rooms have subsequently been filled by new residents.
Donations towards the upkeep of the houses continues to be received which enables the Charity to keep up with the necessary maintenance of the houses. Many new initiatives are planned for fund raising events throughout the coming year.
There is much optimism for the success and future of the Charity with perhaps a

third house being sought and the volunteer mentioned above employed on a part-time basis.
