## **HOPE HOUSING BRIDLINGTON Financial statements for the year to 5 April 2022 Independent Examiner's Report**

I report on the accounts of the Hope Housing Bridlington charity for the year to 5 April 2022, which are set out on pages 4 to 7.

## **Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner**

The Charity's trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The Charity's trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144(2) of the Charities Act 2011 and that an independent examination is needed.

It is my responsibility to:

- (a) examine the accounts under section 145 of the Charities Act 2011;

- (b) follow the procedures laid down in the general Directions given by the Charity Commission ( under section 145(5)(b) of the Charities Act 2011); and

- (c) state whether any particular matters have come to my attention.

## **Basis of the independent examiner's report**

My examination was carried out in accordance with the general Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a true and fair view, and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.

## **Independent examiner's statement**

In the course of my examination no matter has come to my attention:

- (1) which gives me reasonable cause to believe that, in any material respect, the trustees have not met the requirements to ensure that:

   - (a) proper accounting records are kept ( in accordance with section 130 of the Charities Act 2011 ; and

   - (b) accounts are prepared which agree with the accounting records and comply with the accounting requirements of the Charities Act 2011; or

- (2) to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.

## **Trustees' Report**

The trustees of Hope Housing Bridlington are:-

Rev. Mark Jonathan Carey Heather Bingley Rev. Jean Elsie Fowler Rev. Richard William Hare Dr. Anthony John Clarke ( appointed 30 November 2021 )

In addition Dr. Michael William Hart ( died 19 March 2022 ), Paula Diana Burbidge ( resigned 31 May 2022 ), and Rev. Matthew Rupert Pollard ( resigned 4 September 2022 ) served as trustees for part or all of the year.

## **Statement of Trustees' responsibilities**

The law applicable to charities in England and Wales requires the trustees to prepare financial statements for each financial year. In preparing those financial statements the trustees are required to:-

- select suitable accounting policies and then apply them consistently;

- make judgements and estimates which are reasonable and prudent;

- state which accounts have been prepared in accordance with the Statement of Recommended Practice - Accounting by Charities; and

- prepare the accounts on the going concern basis unless it is inappropriate to presume that the concern will continue in operation.

The trustees are required to act within the framework of trust law and the Charities Acts, and are also responsible for keeping proper accounting records. The trustees have a general responsibility for taking such steps as are reasonably open to them to safeguard the assets of the funds and to prevent and detect fraud and other irregularities.

## **Trustees' Report continued....**

## **Review of the period**

The organisation continues to support and house homeless and vulnerable people in Bridlington and the surrounding district through its partnership with Green Pastures, a Christian charity that provides the investment and expertise needed to provide that accommodation.

The two leased houses, on Thorpe Street and Havelock Street, Bridlington, continue to be run smoothly and efficiently by the Housing Support Officer with the support of the trustees. However, just prior to the year end, there was a problem with one of the residents and he has since left. A new tenant moved in shortly after the year end.

Donations towards the upkeep of the houses continue to be received which enables the Charity to keep up with the necessary maintenance of the houses.

There is much optimism for the success and future of the Charity with perhaps a third house being applied for.
