Introduction
The Trustees p￿sent their annual report together with the financial statements of the The Hope Appe81 for the
from 6 February 2023 to S February 2024. This report reflects on the charity's activities, challenges, and
8spiralions for the futu￿. Despite ￿venue challenges, the Hope Appeal has remained committed to addressing
global needs and18ying the groundwork for sustainable Change.
The Trustees confirm that the Annual Report and financial statements of the charity comply with the current
statutory requirements, the requirements of the charitable company's governing document and the provisions of
the Statement of Recommended Practice ISORPI applicable to charities preparing their 8ccounls in accord8nce
with the Financial Reporting Standard 8ppIic8ble in the UK and Republic of Ireland IFRS1021 leffèclive 1
January 20191.
Objectives and activities
a. Polieies and objectives
The Objectives as set out in the governing document for the Charity are as follows..
To advance in life and help young people through". lal the provision of recreational and leisure time activities
provided in the interest of social welfare, designed lo improve their conditions of life," Ibl providing support and
activities which develop their skills, capacities, and capabilities to enable them to partlClP8te in society as mature
and responsible individu81s.
In selling objectives and planning for aclivib'es, the Trustees have given due consideration to gener81 guidance
published by the Charity Commission relating to public benefit, including the guidance 'Public benefit." running 8
charity IP821'.
b. Strategies for achieving objeetives
1. Integrated Community Health Provision:
Establish community he81th programmes offering primary healthcare servI￿s, health education, and preventive
care to improve over811 community well-being.
2. Microfinance Programs:
Implement microfin8nce initiatives to provide support to beneficiaries, fostering economic development and self-
sustainability.
3. Edueational Resources:
Provide necessary eduealional resources, including books, technology, and qu81ified teachers, to ensure access
lo quality education.
4. Water Infrastructure Development:
Invest in water infrastructure projects to provide clean and safe water ac￿sS.

c. Activities undertaken to achieve objeetives
The Hope Appe81 has slralegically engaged in robust fundraising initiatives, c8Pitalizing on the broad scope of
the SKY platform, and harnessing the power of online campaigns. Additionally, the org8nEation has orchestrated
compelling national road shows, not only as a means of fundraising but also to aelively foster community
engagement and support.
Aehievements and performance
The Hope Appeal continued lo support vulnerable communities in meaningful ways, focusing on orph8ns,
widows, povety alleviation, and post-disaster recovery.
a. Support for Orphans
Supporting orphans remained a top priority in 2023, with efforts focused on both immediate assistan￿ and long-
term opportunities.
The charity provided food, clothing, and safe living environments for orphaned children.
Education was a key focus, with funds allocated lo ensure access to schooling and other educational
resources. This investment in educatson is critscal for empowering orphans lo build successful and
Independent lives.
b. Support for Widows
The Hope Appeal provided targeted aid to widows, addressing their specific needs and helping to restore stability
and dignity.
c. Alleviation of Poverty
Alleviating povety is central to the Hope Appeal's mission. In 2023, the focus remained on immediate relief,
including the distribution of food baskets in the remote areas of Tanzania and other regions.
Aspirations for sustainable development, such as supporting small businesses and skills training, are part of
the charity's long-lerm vision to foster self-relianTr within vulnerable communities.
d. Post-Disaster Recovery in Turkey
Following the earthquake in Turkey, the Hope Appeal contributed to recovery efforts, supporting communities in
their journey to rebuild and regain stability.

e. Humanitarian Relief in Gaza
In response to the hum8nilari8n crisis in Gaz8, the Hope Appeal provided vital aid to displaced families, including
shelter and medical supplies. The charity remains commilled lo exploring ways to support long-lerm recovery
and s18bility in the region.
Challenges in 2023 - 2024
The cessation of live fundraising shows on the Sky p18tform resulted in a dip in revenue, prompting the charity to
consider innovative fundraising strategies for the future.
Plans for 2024- 2025
The Hope Appeal will prioritise leveraging social media outreach to connect with a wider audience and enhance
fundraising efforts. This approach will allow the charity to share its mission, highlight the imp8cI of its work, and
inspire greater support.
Additionally, the trustees aspire to expand efforts in sust8in8ble development, including further support for the
education of orphans and empowerment programmes. Building resilience within disaster-affected communities
will also remain a focus, ensuring that ￿e0Very efforts have 8 lasting impact.
Conclusion
The Hope Appeal's work in 2023 has been marked by a steadfast commitment lo immediate aid and aspirations
for sustainable change. By addressing uryent needs while planning for the future, the charity continues to make
a meaningful dIffe￿nCe in the lives of the most vulnerable. The Iruslees look forward to building on this
foundation in 2024, with renewed energy and innovative stmtegies to support those in need.
Financial review
a. Going coneem
After making appropriate enquiries, the Trustees have a reasonable expectation that the Charity has adequate
resources to eontinue in operational existence for the foreseeable futu￿. For this reason, they continue lo adopt
the going eoncern basis in preparing thè financial stalemenls. Further details regarding the adoption of the going
COn￿M basis can be found in the accounting policies.
b. Reserves policy
The Charity maintains reserves of £5,000 for emergencies. This is deemed sufficient because the work
undertaken by the Charity (such as financial management and fundr8isingi is done so by volunteers and the
Board of Trustees.

The management of the Charity is the responsibility of the Trustees who are elected and co-opted under the

The Trustees are responsible for preparing the Trustees, Report and the financi81 statements in accordance with
applicable law and United Kingdom Accounting Standards Iunited Kingdom Generally Ac￿pIed Accounting

The law applicable to charities in England & Wales requires the Trustees to prepare financial statements for
each financial which give a true and fair view of the stale of affairs of the Charity and of its incoming resources
and application of resources, including its income and expenditure, for that period. In preparing these financial
statements, the Trustees are required to".

make judgments and accounting estimates that are reasonable and prudent",

The Trustees are responsible for keeping adequate accounting records that are sufficient to show and explain

and enable them lo ensure that the financial statements comply with the Charities Act 2011, the Charity
(Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 and the provisions of the Memorandum of Association. They are also
responsible for safeguarding the assets of the Charity and hen￿ for taking reasonable steps for the prevention
and detection of fraud and other irregularities.

I report to the charity Trustees on my examination of the accounts of the Charity for the year ended 5 February
2024.
Responsibilities and Basis of Report
As the Trustees of the Charity you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the
requirements of the Charities Act 2011 I'lhe 2011 ACYI.
I report in respect of my examination of the Charity's accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and
in carrying out my examination I have followed the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under
section 14515llbl of the 2011 Act.

I have completed my examination. I confirm that no matters have come to my attention in connection with the
examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect".

General information
The charity is a registered charity, number 1182906, and is consliluted under a Memorandum of
Association.
Accounting policies
2.1 Basis of preparation of financial ststements
The charity constitLJles a public benefit entity as defined by FRS 102. The financial statements have
been prepared in accordance with Accounting and Reporting by Charities.. Statement of
Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the
Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland issued in October 2019,
the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland IFRS
1021, the Charities Act 2011, the Companies Act 2006 and UK Generally Accepted Accounting
Practi￿.
The Hope Appeal meets the definition of a public benefit entity Ljnder FRS 102. Assets and liabilities
are Initially recognised al historical cost or transaction value unless otherwise slated in the relevant
accounb.ng policy.
2.2 Income
All income is recognised once the Charity has entillemenl to the income, il is probable that the
income will be received and the amount of income receivable can be measured reliably.
Donated services by volunteers are not recognised in the financial statements.
2.3 Expenditure
Expenditure is recognised once there is a legal or constructive obligation to transfer economic benefit
to a third paty, it is probable that a transfer of economic benefits will be required in settlement and
the amount of the obligation can be measured reliably. Expenditure is classified by activity. The costs
of each activity are made up of the total of direct costs and shared costs, Including support costs
inVo￿ed in undertaking each activity. Direct costs attributable lo a single activity are allocated directly
to that activity. Shared costs which contribute to more than one activity and support costs which are
not attributable lo a single activity are apportioned between those activities on a basis consistent with
the use of resourTrs.
Expenditure on charitable activities is incurred on direclly undertaking the activities which further the
Charity's objectives, as well as any associated support costs.
All expenditure is inclusive of irrecoverable VAT.
2.4 Cash at bank and in hand
Cash at bank and in hand includes cash and short-term highly liquid investments with a short maturity
of three months or less from the dale of acquisition or opening of the deposit or similar account.

2.5 Liabilities and provisions
Liabilities are recognised when there is an obligation at the Balan￿ Sheet date as a result of a past
event, it is probable that a transfer of economic benefit will be required in selllemenl, and the amount
of the selllement can be eslimaled reliably.
Liabilities are recognised at the amount that the Charity anlicipales il will pay lo sellle the debt or the
amount il has re￿iVed as advanced payments for the goods or services it musl provide.
Provisions are measured at the best estimate of the amounts required lo sellle the obligation. Where
the effect of the lime value of money is material, the provision is based on the present value of those
amounts, discounted at the pre-tax discount rale that reflects the risks specific to the liability. The
unwinding of the discount is recognised in the Slalement of Financial Activities as a finance cost.
2.6 Fund accounting
General funds are unreslricled funds which are available for use at the discretion of the Trustees in
furtherance of the general objectives of the Charity and which have not been designated for other
purposes.
