MESSAGE FROM THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES

Over the past year, The Hope Appeal has made significant progress in giving hope to the hopeless. We have overcome many challenges to make the world a better place.

The fallout from COVID-19 and spiralling food costs have exacerbated inequalities among the most vulnerable groups of people, especially orphans. These inequalities have pushed more people into poverty, and communities worldwide have been hard hit.

We have

overcome many challenges to make the world a better place.

The Hope Appeal's commitment to meet these challenges head-on is down to a group of dedicated humanitarians who work tirelessly to ensure that people can access the basics like water, food, and shelter.

We thank everyone for making The Hope Appeal's first year phenomenol.

In Iraq, we are supporting over 20 widow families and their children with monthly stipends for food, rent, and medicine. We have distributed food packages to over 1,300 low-income families. In Pakistan, we have distributed over 1,750 food packages to the victims of last year's devastating floods. In Tanzania, we have commissioned the building of 15 water wells and will build more this year. We have delivered hundreds of warm blankets, clothes, and ready-to-eat meals to the victims of this year's earthquake in Turkey.

This year, we aim to support more families to become economically self-sufficient through microfinance schemes. We will increase our clean water projects, expand our Little Hearts orphan sponsorship programme, continue distributing food aid to communities experiencing food insecurity, and respond to emergency crises worldwide.

WHO WE ARE

Our founders have been working and volunteering in the charity sector for many years, gaining valuable experience ensuring we can deliver humanitarian aid to people in need most effectively.

WHAT WE DO

• Provide people with clean, safe drinking water and WASH (Water and Sanitation Hygiene) facilities through our

• ‘Water For All’ appeal.

• Deliver emergency food aid parcels to those who are most at risk of malnutrition and starvation.

• Provide shelter to IDPs (internally displaced peoples), refugees, the homeless and the destitute.

• Facilitate the educational needs of children and young people around the world.

• Provide people with the necessary financial support, tools, and equipment to start a small business through our microfinance schemes.

• Respond to emergency crises efficiently and expediently, delivering aid packages to those in dire circumstances.

ORPHANS & EDUCATION

According to UNICEF (the United Nations Children’s Emergency Fund), there are roughly 153 million orphans worldwide

263 million children and youth are not in education

69 million children worldwide suffer from malnutrition

1 in 4 of the world’s children live in a conflict or disaster zone

The Hope Appeal has campaigned on behalf of orphans who have no resources or anyone to turn to for help, most notably in Iraq. We are currently sponsoring over 20 orphans and their families.

Orphans rely on our compassion to ensure they have access to the basics. Without the right support, orphans are vulnerable and struggle to make it by themselves.

According to the Widows and Orphans Development Foundation there are about 1,696,349 orphans in Tanzania.

An estimated 2 million children between the ages of 7 and 13 years are not in education

3.3 million children under 5 years suffer from chronic malnutrition

Almost 5 out of 10 children live in extreme poverty

The Hope Appeal has contributed to constructing the third building of the The Haven of Peace Orphanage in Tanzania.

Over 150 orphans now have a safe place to call home and they receive a first-class education at the orphanage's school. Alongside providing food, shelter and education, the orphanage also handles the children's medical needs. The grounds are beautiful and allow children to play and grow.

According the United Nations Development Programme 3.2 million children are not in education in Iraq

Iraq allocated only 6% of its national budget to the education sector

39% of the rural population is illterate

Girls aged 12 and older have an illiteracy rate that is more than twice that of boys

The Hope Appeal have contributed to the costs of education fees, stationery, books and uniforms for over 1,000 children in Iraq.

Education is a key social and cultural right. We have contributed to reducing poverty and child labour by supporting children’s education.

WATER

According to Wateraid, 771 million people are still living without clean water close to homes

1 in 4 children will live in regions where water will become scarce by 2040

1.7 billion people don’t have a decent toilet of their own

2.3 billion people lack soap and water for handwashing at home

Over the past year, The Hope Appeal has commissioned the building of 15 water wells in Tanzania close to homes, benefitting over 4,500 people who now have access to clean, safe water.

We have ensured that people from poor and disadvantaged backgrounds have access to clean and safe drinking water.

HEALTHCARE

At least half of the world’s population cannot obtain essential health services, according to a new report from the World Bank and WHO

In 2020, the number of completely unvaccinated children increased by 3.4 million

Roughly 800 million people spend at least 10 percent of their household income on healthcare

303,000 women a year die in childbirth, or as a result of complications arising from pregnancy

We are supporting over 20 widow families from impoverished backgrounds, living in remote areas to access healthcare.

A visit to the doctor can wipe out someone's savings. We will continue to widen people's access to high-quality and affordable healthcare through our healthcare projects.

EMERGENCY AID IN PAKISTAN

According to UNICEF, the worst natural disaster in Pakistan’s history has led to the internal displacement of over 33 million people and killed over 1,000

22.8 million children of primary school age are not in education

We have distributed over 1,750 food packages, winter blankets, and clean water to the victims of last year’s devastating floods in Pakistan.

In July 2022, Pakistan experienced heavy monsoon rains, which led to the loss of life, homes and livelihoods. Up to 21.7 million people already need clean, safe drinking water, with over 40 percent lacking soap and handwashing facilities. This increases the likelihood of the spread of waterborne diseases like cholera and typhoid.

According to the United Nations, Tanzania is one of the poorest and least developed countries in the world

An estimated 20 percent of families are unable to afford a healthy diet

5.5 million people are food insecure

7 percent of the population still live below the poverty line

In Tanzania, we have distributed over 4,000 food packages as part of our food drive, benefitting approximately 15,000 people.

Tanzania faces massive challenges, including food shortages, violence against women, high levels of unemployment, and children not in education. These challenges led to a rise in poverty, food insecurity and stalled economic development.
