INNIT FOR YOUNG PEOPLE CIO ANNUAL REPORT & FINANCIAL STATEMENT 1st July 2021- 30th June 2022
WELCOME FROM OUR CHAIR AND CEO kl This year. 14YPC has really found its feet! ".IVe've surpassed all our expectations .Ind couldn't be prouder of everything we've achieved as an organisation. '1 Young people were still recovering from the implications of the pandemicand lockdowns. and we knew we needed to help them get back on theirfeet, get out and about and start to embrace the world again. We did this by launching our second nationwide online workshop and competition, 'SnapYourTown', and wow we were truly amazed at the number of young people that we reached! Another highlight of this year was getting our relatable. experiential. aspirational and lifelong IREAL) curriculum into schools to be trialled. We were so lucky to be able to observe young people enjoying their learning and having fun with the resources we'd provided forthem! One image which sticks in our Chairfs mind from these visits. Is that of a Year 8 boy, who'd challenged himself to sing a solo line from'lnnivs, catchy number, Yhe Slammerf, because he'd never done this before. He stood up confidently and delivered his line; he was clearly proud of himself, as were we! There have been so many moments like this overthe past year and countless occasions where we've been truly inspired by the creativity of young people we have encountered and helped to develop. We are now fully committed to working towards delivering our'lnnit .23. programme and will continue to do so into the next reporting period. We know that we have a guaranteed audience of young people and the buy-in from schools. which is amazing. We now look fonmard to our most exciting year ahead Ange Lea, Chair ILrty Dacks, CEO

THERE"S NO QUESTION THAT INNIT. WHICH BEGAN LIFE AS A YOUTH PROJECT. IS A POSITIVE IThIITIATIVE_ THE TARGET AUDIENCE OF LOCAL TEENAGERS WHOOP WITH RECOGNITIOThI. IT GETS KIDS EXCITED ABOUT GOING TO THE THEATRE AND THAT'S WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT - INNIT? the guardian 'INNIT' IS A HARD.CIIRE TALE OF TRIUMPH IN THE FACE OF ADVERSITY. SET IN SALFORD AND BASED ON REAL LIFE, 'INNIT' REVOLVES AROUND TEENAGER ASHLEY THOMAS, AS HE GETS HIMSELF CAUGHT IIP WITH A BAN6 AND FRAMED FOR STABBING THE LEGENDARY MUSIC MANA6ER AND SHOP OWNER, JOHNNY KING, LANDIN6 HIMSELF A PRISON SENTENCE. SET AGAINST THE BACKDROP OF A SALFORD COUNCIL ESTATE, THE STORY INTRODUCES THE AUDIENCE TO ASHLEY AND THE'SCALLIES, WHO, WHILST BEING PROMINENT ANTAGONISTS THROUGHOUT THE PLAY BRING HILARIOUS COMEDY THROUGH THEIR CHARACTERg, SHADOWING THE OVERRIDING DARKNESS OF THE SETTING AND STORY. J4 I, THE PLOT FURTHER EXPLORES THE ISSUES AND FRUSTRATIONS OF ASHLEY THOMAS, WHO HAS BEEN BORN INTO A DEPRIVED WORKING.CLASS FAMILY, WITH AN ABSENT FATHER AND AN ALCOHOLIC MOTHER ASHLEY'S TIMELESS AND ENDURING STORY EXPLORES AND ADDRESSES SOCIAL ISSUES WHICH ARE STILL FACED BY TEENAGERS TODAY, WITHOUT PATRONISING THEM AS THE VERY AUDIENCE THAT 'INNIT' IS INTENDED FOR.
"SALFORD PROBATION TOOK A GROUP OF PROLIFIC AND PRIORITY OFFENDERS (PPO'S) AND SEVERAL OFFENDERS WITH CLASS A DRUG ADDICTIONS, SUBJECT TO DRUG REHABILITATION REQUIREMENTS (DRR'S), TO A PERFORMANCE OF "INNIT" AT THE LOWRY THEATRE, SALFORD, MY UNDERSTANDING IS THAT THE GROUP WE TOOK TO SEE THE PERFORMANCE National Offender HAD NEVER BEEN TO A THEATRE BEFORE IN THEIR ENTIRE LIVES. Managementservice THE EXPERIENCE OF SEEING YOUR COLOURFUL, NOISY, PROFESSIONAL AND THOUGHT.PROVOKIN PERFORMANCE APPEARS TO HAVE HAD A SIGNIFICANT IMPACT ON EACH MEMBER OF THE GROUP, ASHLEY'S STORY OF FAMILY BREAK-UP, NEGATIVE PEER-GROUP PRESSURE, DRUGS AND OFFENDING,, STRUCK A CHORD WITH EVERY MEMBER OF THE GROUP. IN FACT TWO OF THE GROUP RETURNED WITH THEIR PARTNERS TO SEE THE SHOW AGAIN AND SErfERAL MEMBERS OF THE GROUP WERE RECORDING SECTIONS OF IT ON THEIR PHONES, IT WAS A PLEASURE TO SEE TOUGH, REPEAT OFFENDERS JUMPING UP AND DOWN ON THEIR SEATS AND CLAPPING, ON A MORE SERIOUS NOTE, THE ISSUES RAISED IN THE SHOW NOW FORMS PART OF THE ONGOING OFFENCE-FOCUSED WORK WITH OFFENDERS AND I'M SURE THE EXPERIENCE OF SEEING YOUR PERFORMANCE ASSISTS IN THESE DISCUSSIONS. I WOULD STRONGLY RECOMMEND "INNIT" AS NOT ONLY A FIRST CLASS PROFESSIONAL PERFORMANCE. BUT ALSO, AS A HIGHLY EFFECTIVE'MEDIUM" THROUGH WHICH TO ENGAGE WITH EVEh THE MOST PROLIFIC OF OFFENDERS.
