Alfurqan Academy Reporting Period: 1st April 2023 – 31st March 2024
Introduction
Alfurqan Academy is a registered Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) dedicated to providing high-quality supplementary education, fostering cultural enrichment, and promoting the wellbeing of children, young people, and families in the community. Our mission is to support the academic, spiritual, and personal development of our students while encouraging good citizenship, healthy lifestyles, and strong community engagement.
This report highlights our key objectives, activities, and achievements over the reporting period, showcasing how Alfurqan Academy continues to lead in supplementary education and community impact.
Objectives and Achievements
Delivering High-Quality Islamic and Supplementary Education
We aim to provide structured and inclusive educational programs that combine Islamic learning with mainstream academic support.
Achievements:

Curriculum Excellence: Delivered a structured Supplementary education consisting of Islamic studies, Quran Studies and activities, from Year 1 to Year 11. Lesson plans are tailored to different age groups to ensure age-appropriate content and methodologies.

Leading Supplementary School: Recognised as one of the leading supplementary schools in the region, we provide a holistic approach to education that integrates faith, culture, and academic learning.

Student Competitions and Trips: Organised Quran competitions, student reward trips to foster motivation, teamwork, and engagement.
Supporting Mainstream Education and Youth Development
Our programs aim to enhance educational outcomes while promoting good health, citizenship, and cultural appreciation.
Achievements:
- Homework Clubs and GCSE Preparation Workshops: Provided academic support to help students improve their performance in mainstream education.

HAF (Holiday Activities and Food) Program:

April 2023 (Spring Program) and August 2023 (Summer Program):

Hosted comprehensive programs working with Manchester Active and MCC for children aged 5- 16, focusing on wellbeing, healthy eating, arts and crafts, and personal development workshops.

During the summer August program included a reward trip for participants with consistency attendance, fostering commitment and engagement.

December 2023 (Winter Program): Focused on wellbeing, educational workshops, and arts and crafts, supporting personal development and healthy lifestyles during school time.
Youth Programs Supported by GMP and Islamic Relief:
- Weekly sessions throughout the year provided young people with opportunities to engage in personal development activities, sports, and leadership-building workshops.
Promoting Physical and Mental Wellbeing
We strive to enhance the health and wellbeing of children and youth through sports, extracurricular activities, and wellbeing workshops.
Achievements:

Sports Activities: Hosted weekly football sessions and other sports activities for children and teenagers, promoting teamwork, physical health, and mental wellbeing.

Wellbeing Workshops: Delivered sessions on healthy lifestyles, mental health, and resilience-building to equip students with tools for long-term wellbeing.
Strengthening Parental and Community Engagement
We believe in fostering strong partnerships between the madrassah, parents, and the wider community to support students’ educational journeys.
Achievements:
- Parents’ Evenings: Regular parents’ evenings ensured transparent communication, allowing parents to engage with teachers, understand their children’s progress, and provide valuable feedback.
Community Outreach: Organised community events and used communication platforms like WhatsApp and emails to strengthen ties with families and the local community.

Investing in Teacher Development
Our goal is to maintain high standards of teaching by equipping staff with the necessary tools and training.
Achievements:

Delivered safeguarding, DSL (Designated Safeguarding Lead), child protection, and health and safety training to ensure compliance and best practices.

Conducted wellbeing workshops for staff to promote a positive and supportive work environment.

Madrassah Teaching Assistant Training Program (MTATP): Provided structured
training for teaching assistants to support classroom management and enhance student engagement.

Graduation Ceremony and Achievement Day: Celebrated the accomplishments of over 500 children from 200 families, fostering pride and a sense of achievement among students and their families.

Quran Competitions: Encouraged students to excel in Quran recitation and memorization while promoting healthy competition and spiritual growth.

Extracurricular Programs: Weekly culture and faith lessons, sports sessions, and youth workshops enriched students’ overall learning experience.

Future Plans
1. Enhanced Teacher Training:
- Expand training programs to include use of technology to effectively teach children, develop digital skills, inclusive teaching methods, and advanced behaviour management strategies.
2. Parent Workshops:
- Launch workshops on effective parenting and strategies to support children’s education at home.
3. Facilities Development:
- Invest in improved classroom and activity spaces to accommodate growing enrolments and enhance the learning environment.
4. Youth Leadership Initiatives:
- Develop leadership workshops and mentorship programs to empower young people and foster future community leaders.

INDEPENDENT EXAMINER’S REPORT
TO THE TRUSTEES OF ALFURQAN ACADEMY
I report on the accounts of Alfurqan Academy, registered charity number 1182797 for the accounts period ended 31st March 2024 which are set out on pages 10-13
RESPECTIVE RESPONSIBILITIES OF TRUSTEES AND EXAMINER
The charity's trustees are responsible for the preparation for the accounts in accordance with the requirement of the Charities Act 2011 (''the Act''). The charity's trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year (under section 43(2) of the Charities Act 1993 (the 1993 Act) and that an independent examination is needed.
It is my responsibility to:

examine the accounts (under section 145 of the 2011 Act)
-
to follow the procedures laid down in the General Directions given by the Charity Commission (under section 145(5)(b) of the Act); and in accordance FRS 102 SORP
-
to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.
BASIS OF INDEPENDENT EXAMINER'S REPORT:
My examination was carried out in accordance with the General Directions given by the Charity Commissioners. An examination includes the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts and seeking explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently I do not express an audit opinion on the view given by the accounts.
INDEPENDENT EXAMINER’S STATEMENT:
In connection with our examination, no matter has come to my attention;
- (1) which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements
. to keep accounting records in accordance with section 41 of the Act; and
. to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and to comply with the accounting requirements of the Act have not been met; or
(2) to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.

For the year ending 31st March 2024 the company was entitled to exemption from audit under section 477 of the Companies Act 2006 relating to small companies but as this company is a charity, it is subject to audit under charities Act 2011.
Directors' responsibility:
The members have not required the company to obtain an audit of its accounts for the year in question in accordance with sect ion 476; The directors aknowledge their responsibilities for complying with the requirements of the Act with respect to accounting records and the preparation of accounts
The accounts have been prepared in accordance with the special provisions relating to small companies within Part 15 of the Companies Act 2006, with the Financial Reporting Standard for Smaller Entities (effective April 2008) and in accordance FRS 102 SORP.
