Alfurqan Academy is committed to ensuring governance arrangements that are robust to ensure that the organisation is managed in accordance with the current legislation, as well as adopting procedures that are examples of good practice and improve the effectiveness of the organisation. Alfurqan Academy recognises that the new Code of Governance for the Voluntary and Community Sector includes, as part of its principles, that 'Trustees should have the diverse range of skills, experience and knowledge needed to run an organisation effectively' and that 'Trustees should ensure that they receive the necessary induction, training and ongoing support they need to discharge their duties'. As a supplementary school, every academic year we ensure that policies and procedures are up to date and have been put into practice. Verbal conversations and meetings are held within our organisation to ensure practice and team meetings are held to show individual understanding. In addition to this, Alfurqan Academy adopted recruitment and appointment of new Trustees and the policies and procedures adopted for the induction and training of Trustees.

Our charity’s organisational structure involve a board of trustee and one of our trustee is also the head of management for operations connect the trustees to the management. Our trustees have a simple but effective riskmanagement strategy that will minimise the chances of something going wrong during their tenure.

We arrange to maintain a safe environment for visitors and staff to work in - example having an accident book to record injuries suffered by volunteers and service users. In case a trustees identifies risks, the team are assessed for their likelihood and impact (in a collaborative process between the management and trustees) and a decision taken on the processes to control the risk.

We have insurance against risks:

Community education – we facilitate tailored workshops for the various sections of our community such as parenting support workshop, social welfare and the environment. 4. Physical education and development of young people – we work in partnership with various local and national organisations to facilitate sporting activities, wellness sessions and careers advice. 5. Training (including vocational training) and life-long learning – Our staff have a clear understanding of the curriculum that is provided and plan prior to implementing their lessons (taking into consideration different learning styles), learning activities and assessments to check students' understanding of the topic. Hence a strong link between quality lesson planning and the quality of its implementation. This year we have encouraged staff to use further resources and equipment to help students learn in a more creative way. Supporting SEN students has been an area of our Education that we are trying to improve. We feel like we need more support in this area, so to further help us we are in the process of liaising with other supplementary schools who specialise in learning difficulties. 6. Research and adding to collective knowledge and understanding of specific areas of study and expertise is still a working progress

During the Covid-19 pandemic we moved a lot of our services online during lockdown but otherwise, always follow government guidelines. However, our events pre-Covid-19 included:

We have done 2 one-to-one parent evenings for our supplementary school children to discuss with the parents and carers about the progress of children at Alfurqan Academy.

We also had a general meeting with the wider parents to consult them with the development and improvement of the supplementary school.

Alfurqan Academy is an independent organisation that sits within a group of organisations of the Alfurqan Centre dedicated to serving education, cultural and religious needs of our children and their families. This is demonstrated as follows:
