## **Chairman’s Report 2020-2021**

As for everyone, the impact of COVID has been significant, with all of our activities suspended from March 2020, only picking up again in the summer, and moving online during the winter months. These are some of the highlights of the past year:

1. Rob Cleveland, who had served as our youth worker faithfully for many years, left us in the summer. We held a socially-distanced, outside farewell event which was well attended and celebrated all that he had achieved in his time with us. Our sincere thanks are expressed to Rob for his faithful service for BYP.

2. Ian Thompson stepped down from the trustees after faithful service, and Lizzy Smallwood took his place, representing Immanuel Church, Bodmin. I am so grateful to Ian for all he gave so willingly – and his great minute taking!

3. Immerse (10-14s) relaunched online in Sept and we saw a good attendance and a sense of community developing. This then transferred to the Upper Room of the Methodist Church, and subsequently to Immanuel Church. We are drawing on a wide area, and the sense of community continues to develop and grow. We long to see this group grow, and for BYP to “grow up” with them.

4. We relaunched our group for older teens in February 21 with just 4 girls attending (aged 15-17). Setting their own agenda, this group is developing its own identity, and working well in these strange times.

5. Lizzy continues to meet with a couple of girls one to one.

6. We have run a couple of special events on Fair Park in the holidays which have successfully blended the groups, with football and challenges as the focus, and give us a good model going forward.

7. Football is about to relaunch on a fortnightly basis, and continues to draw good numbers of local young people. The Council continues to allow us to use the park for free, for which we are most grateful.

8. Our volunteers have stuck with us, and another has recently been recruited. We are blessed with so many people prepared to support the work, and we thank God for them.

9. We are also blessed with churches that support us with finances and with facilities and premises. This always has been a joint venture, and it continues to be so to the credit of the churches involved.

I end this report thankful for God’s faithfulness and direction in what have been incredibly difficult and challenging times. Thank you too to my fellow trustees and all the volunteers who have stood with us, and of course, thank you to the young people for their enthusiasm, interest, and desire to learn more of what it is to follow Christ.

Challenging as it is, I remain excited at future prospects, and confident we will continue to grow as God leads us.

Jon Langford June 2021
