his incredible year was turbo charged with the Tfull-time hire of Migle Radziunaite, whose steady hand and expertise allowed us to further expand on previous community building programmes and enable more projects to be put into motion. We increased our reach to work with new colleges and forged enduring partnerships with local organisations to engage wider audiences and this year, we managed to engage an incredible 4,390 participants who directly benefitted from our free
We successfully evolved a strategy to build and strengthen our own internal creative community through many meaningful interactions and involved our artists in developing a wide range of creative workshops to be delivered to the public and college students. Our educational Coordinator and artist, Camilla Brendon, carefully matched students to artists to provide a rich programme of hands-on

work experience to over 65 young people, to help them identify their areas of interest and to bolster confidence with real-life exposure to creative industries. The programmes were well received with some students returning for more in-depth guidance, mentorship and exposure. We also involved returning in the setting up, curation and hanging of our main exhibition and the delivery of our Open studios.
We also spent more time to meet with a number of local businesses to fire up partnerships. Collaborations with Shepherds Bush Market allowed us to open a pop-up shop staffed by our artists, selling affordable artworks, putting on public exhibitions and involving passing visitors to take part in collage and clay workshops. Our artists delivered a dozen painted ‘murals’ on market shutters activated by augmented reality to brighten up the market and for all to enjoy. Later that year, we also forged a relationship with nearby Hoxton Hotel where we continue to host revolving exhibitions every three months.
This year, our Open studios was met with particular excitement as we welcomed 1,980 visitors over the course of a weekend. All 67 artists opened their doors and BBC Radio Four presenter, Sean Keaveney, hosted talks about the creative industries whilst a tiny cinema, showing short films curated by our film maker, Adam Bernet, followed by a full drumming circle and a Ghanain band. Our Studios brimmed with the creativity and flair that we are known for, making West London a proud and more connected place
It has been a busy year for us at Kindred Studios – our presence in the area has been welcomed by all and we can clearly feel the positive impact of our presence in this thriving part of London which is more connected and colourful for having us settled there.

“Even if people are not interested in art or this form of it, this course would still be a wonderful experience – expressing yourself, sharing and listening to others is always helpful in so many ways! We all need to connect and this is one way of doing that.” School/college student participating in Jon Rees’s course

Letter from Nashwa Al-Serbi, student from West London College, after work experience and Open Studios, summer 2023
“In the future, if I had to pinpoint an experience in my life that opened my heart again, I would recite my memories of Kindred studios – truly I would.
I was genuinely losing touch with my passion for art, and I was planning on taking another path, but when I did my work experience there, I fell back in love.
The artists there are all so loving and welcoming. But not as an act or to trick, they genuinely were and I could see that in their art pieces. Hearing them say that you can be an artist in whatever way you want, as long you just do it gave me hope; I saw fashion designers, painters, photographers, sculptors from different backgrounds all there creating beautiful pieces and that means I could too.
It was so refreshing to see so many (creative) people working together in one space. One of the days, I was with a wonderful costume designer, and she ran out of red spray paint, and went around the studio asking for one – and she simply got it! — It was such a little moment, but it reflected the humanity of this place.
I would wish for more places like these to be formed, we need them to live better in this big – lonely – world.
My time at Kindred felt like a much needed warm hug. A BIG THANK YOU to Angelique, Mig, Camellia and everyone there – especially the following artists that I had the honour of meeting: Syban, Luke Archer, Sophie Orde Mercedes Carbonell, Luke White, Lily Bertrand-Webb and Anna Gayner.”

Testimonials
Michael Shidi
Kindred studio is an amazing community, with a nurturing atmosphere. I have had help in preparing a portfolio from artists such as Alex Julian, and in developing my studio practice Olivia Streeton.
My time at Kindred also facilitated my growth, in other aspects of my life. I learned important life skills which allowed me to support myself through my continual growth. Upmost Kindred has thought me to persevere, in the face of all adversity and achieve the goals that I set myself.
Due to the immense support from Kindred I was able to put together a portfolio of work, which landed me an offer to study on the Foundation course at City & Guild College. Angelique, Miglė and Kindred are a monumental pillar in the West London artists space, they deliver something completely unique. Working tirelessly to foster the growth of not only myself but every other artist that walks through their gates. It is truly astounding to bear witnesses to such a feat.
Abbas Zahedi
If I did not have Kindred, my life would have been much harder for the last few years.
Anna Gayner
Being part of the Kindred Studios community has had a hugely positive impact on the trajectory of my artistic career. From day one Kindred provided me with the physical space to improve my painting skills as well as the critical support of an expert and caring community - both of which gave me the confidence to pursue and develop my practice. Through Kindred’s partnerships with curators and public spaces – such as the Hoxton Hotel – I had the opportunity to exhibit and sell my work. As a result my work now hangs on the walls of many happy customers and I am a contributing member of society! During my time at Kindred I built the confidence to apply to the Royal College of Art and, having been offered a place, I shall start my Masters of Painting in September 2024. I am ever grateful to Kindred for supporting my artistic journey so far. Thank you!
Natalia Bagniewska
I have only been with Kindred from September 23, but I have had the most enriching and wonderful experience as a member. Kindred is my first studio space, and I have loved becoming part of an amazing community which hosted the Queen of England and has held two open studios. Also, in collaboration with Kindred I have been honoured to have a solo show at the Hox Gallery at the Hoxton hotel in Shepherds Bush. It’s been a magical nine months.

Amelia Lancaster
I am so grateful to my bursary at Kindred Studios which has led to a big professional break through for me this year. A fellow Kindred artist who saw my pictures of the National Theatre drew them to the attention of the National Theatre. As a result, I was invited me to have my first solo exhibition at the National Theatre!
My exhibition was featured in The Observer , Guardian on-line and The Architects Journal . It’s up until Autumn in the Wolfson Gallery.
It was very much in the Kindred spirit that I was helped by another artist. Also having the space has meant I can show other curators my work in a professional setting. I am really grateful to Angelique, Mig and everyone at Kindred for making this all possible.

Open Studios drumming circle participant
Kindred Studios is an amazing hive of artistic activities where resident practitioners work/endeavour to fulfil their creative aims and objectives. The studios house artists who work in a variety of genres and disciplines. But Kindred also acts as a hub for local community events, where participants from across London – and practitioners like myself, can come together and get involved in all the events staged onsite. Kindred is a welcoming and wonderful day out for all the family.
Imogen Mosley
The positive community impact Kindred Studios has had on my life has been profound. After meeting Angelique at an exhibition public viewing in 2023, I was keen to become involved and set up a meeting. Angelique and Mig were more than welcoming and suggested I got involved in helping set up the weekly life drawing classes. This immediately connected me to provided me with a sense of belonging and a pool of inspirational characters.
Not long after, I was offered the opportunity to further engage with Kindred by helping their volunteer coordinator on biannual open days for the studio. A role I am committed to continuing.
Without Kindred my sense of purpose and belonging within Shepherds Bush would disintegrate. The unique and powerful resources for cultural enrichment that the studios provide to W6 and W12 is profound. Quantifying it would be immeasurable at present. This is because the growth of the charity and its potential is ever expanding. The scope of the cultural and artistic benefit to the community is vast.
Sato Sugamoto
The Open Studio was a wonderful day for me, thanks to everyone’s support. I had more visitors than I had anticipated, which was largely attributed to the teamwork displayed by Kindred. Being amidst everyone’s energy fills me with immense happiness.

Pascal Rommé
‘Having a studio at Kindred has provide me with a dedicated, private, quiet, safe and stimulating working space to make and experiment. Having a studio enables me to use techniques which would have been difficult to use in a home environment. Having a studio at Kindred impacted my practice in that being part of the community common endeavours are shared and this is where I find support and exchanges that bring enriching perspectives to my work.’
“The course really helped me socialise and share things I needed to share but didn’t have anyone to talk to about them.” Young person from local school/college
Jon Rees
When I moved into Kindred I couldn’t imagine the journey I was about to embark on. As part of my own recovery from mental health challenges, addiction and homelessness I have found photography incredibly important in making peace with the past.
I arrived with an idea to run some wellbeing photography workshops to help others explore the therapeutic power of photography. Through the support of Kindred, my course, Changing Perspectives has managed to touch the lives of so many people; From NHS staff recovering from the pandemic, to NHS patients who experience chronic pain. From new mums adjusting to motherhood to people experiencing the devastation of homelessness. From young people from local colleges to leadership programs at big corporates.
Through the taking of and talking about photographs, participants connect with each other on an intimate level and can experience profound shifts in their perspectives on their lives.
Facilitating the course also gave me the opportunity to explore my personal history with the space, having lived here when it was a homeless hostel. Being a part of Kindred has enabled an enormous transformation for me both personally and professionally and the idea of community is now central to everything I do.
On Jon’s Changing Perspectives courses:
“As a front-line clinician I found the pandemic traumatic and lifechanging. This course has been an essential part of my selfreflection in the postcovid era.”
“It’s such a good mix of creative/learning and feelings. Beautifully structured and a lovely space to explore.”
“By using photography I could express emotions that I can’t in words.”
“Jon has been an amazing facilitator and has maintained a safe space to allow me to be my most vulnerable and authentic self.”
