STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE & MANAGEMENT

Governing document:

The Kairos Initiative is constituted as a charitable trust registered with the charity commission in 28 March 2019 under charity number 1182681. It is governed by a deed of trust which has not been amended since the charity was formed.

Organisational structure:

The charity trustees are responsible for the general control and management of the charity. At the yearly trustee meetings, the trustees agree the strategy and activities of the charity. The trustees give their time freely and receive no remuneration or other financial benefits. To assist with the smooth running of the charity the trustees set up committees that comprises of a trustee and volunteers.

Recruitment of trustees:

The existing trustees are responsible for recruitment and appointment of new trustees.

Induction and training of trustees:

Trustees are appointed on the basis of their ability to bring to the Management Board a range of skills to assist in the governance and development of the Charity. Before appointment they are guided by the Chair and trustees through a comprehensive induction procedure designed to give them a complete understanding of the objectives and aspirations of the Charity. In addition, Charity Commission literature is given to all Trustees on an on-going basis in order to assist them to understand their legal responsibilities.

5

Risk Management:

Reserved policy:

The trustees have assessed the risks the charity is exposed and have established systems and procedure to manage them. The trustees are satisfied that systems are in place to handle the risk identified. The trustees review the risk matrix at their meetings regularly.

The policy of the charity requires that reserves be maintained at a level which ensures that the charity’s core activity could continue during a period of unforeseen difficulties and that a proportion of reserves be maintained in accessible form. The Kairos Initiative does not intentionally carry a surplus of reserved funds as donations or grants are allocated per financial year and are usually must be spent within that financial year.

FINANCIAL REVIEW

Funding Source:

Our main source of funds this year has been donations and personal / family contribution. Total incomings for the year amounted to £2141.59, while total expenditure for the year amounted to £2295.82. We used majority of the unrestricted funds to implement our projects.

Investment and Policy:

The charity has no long-term investments. Our cash reserves are held in money market and deposit accounts. The interest earned is considered by the trustees as a gift of the UK banking system.

Covid Pandemic:

Post pandemic we found new ways to reach our beneficiaries and continued to deliver our services. We adapted to the crisis by refocusing and reducing their activities. Donations reduced and we had to rely on family and friends to deliver projects.

Future plans:

We intend to start applying for grants to meet up the huge demand of upcoming projects in our adopted communities. We have to rely less on donations and personal income to fund projects. We want to grow our network of contributors by making strategic partnerships.
