BACKGROUND Emmanuel Parish Church continues as part of a joint benefi with Christ Church remaining independent in tenns of being self-goveming and responsible for the management of its own affairs. During 2025 we have maintained our fellowship and co- operation with Christ Church. We continue with online weekly news sheet 'Connected° started during the pandemic which is delivered to those without technology and covers news and infotmation about both churches. MEMBERSHIP rtslembers of the PCC are either ex-officio or elected by the APCM in accordance with the Church Representation Rules, the following served as PCC members during 2025. PARISH LIFE 2025 The Beacon and Friendship Group conb'nued to meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays as before, and both are well attended. Our k)wer hall was well used by AA, NA and CA while New Dawn Counselling servi worked on the first fioor. We held monthly Coffee Mornings and Sales on the first Saturday of month from March until DMber, with a Fete held in Juty and a Bazaar in November all of which were well attended and profftable. Communion continued to be Served wilh wafers dipped in wine. Monthty communion services were hekl on the second Wednesday of each month unless otherwise notifRd and Deaf Church met on the secorKI Sunday of the month. The servi of Light in January was held at St Peters. the Locking Deanery Prayer and Praise Service at Emmanuel in March was organised by Meg and Donna, while World Day of Prayer was held at Corpus Christi. The Civic Society presented an award to Emmanud at The Museum in Weston-super4Aare for repairs carrd out to our nd( and Mullions. We enjoyed a meal at Christ Church on Maundy Thursday, and a Good Friday Reflection servi at Emrnanuel tsken by Julie and Donna. Tr Easter Day servi taken by Julie and John saw communion being administered the old way wrth the wine being sipped or a wafer dipped in grape juice. At our APCM on 27 April. Mavis arKI Penny became our wardens arKI Mary became our Verger. Open Gardens held by Meg. Sandy and Tony and Slella were well attended and enjoyed good weather. Three flower beds on the south side of church were weeded, then Donna and Ray placed a membrane and bart( around lovely plants provided by Brian Marchant in memory of his wife. ASnSIon Day was followed by 10 days of prayers lill Pentecost. and a prayer walk around Emmanuel. At a Special Pentecost Service Tony Holden spoke on Shiva. At the ArCeaCon.8 VrtatIOn in June, Mavis and Penny were instalkd as church wardens. A Crearn Tea and Quiz was enjoyed in July, and we held a Cleaning Day in ¢hurc*b and kitchen that month helped by John from Christ Church. Early in September we held Lrfe Group Sunday and on 21 September we held our Harvest Service with the donated goods being split between The Beacon and Foodbank and our financial donations being given to Ripple Effect for which all recipients were grateful. Our Church Renewal Day on 6 Othr was run by Tom, Julie. John and Donna as Claire Horton had broken her foot and could not attend, rt was well attended and started wrth a bring and share lunch followed by information and discussions. In November we held our Remembrance Day Service and our Safeguarding servi ft>llowed at the end of the month with an evening Healing and holenesS servi at Christ Church. On 13 December our church was decorated for Christrnas with our wardens taking the lead ably assisted by Pat. Donna arKI Ray for whith thanks go to him for the strings of lights over rhe seating. which proved highly effective at our Carol Service. Drnber saw us carol singing in Church Square with the music provided by members of Christ Church follo%1 by refreshments organised by the Friendship Group. The lunch time Town Hall Carol Service was trld as usual and Emmanuel's Evening Carol servi was on 19 Defflber. Each event was followed by Iht freshments (MITME pies) and hot drinks. TREASURER'S REPORT Our gNing in 2025 Yds down by £1.487, but tax recovered on the previous ye8rfs giving was up by £2,018. therefore the giving total increased by £532. In(x)me on our hall letting was up by £1,669. thanks to an increase in the charges we make and careful management by Meg on Week lettings. Tr fete. bazaar, cream tea and quiz, which together with Open Gardens held by Meg. Tony and Sandy and Slella raised £2,485.25 which was up by £157,24. Saturday Coffee Momings raised £1,318.08. which was £70.88 more than the previous year. Gffts and Legacies included a lovely donakn'on of £300 from a church member in celebration of her birthday and a very generous donation of £10,000 from another church member, together with £1.255 raised in our Lent Chair project driven by Donna, and small donations from Church members. The VAT claim raised £3.395.08. The Children's Society annual box opening and donations raised £307.36. We only gave £50 last year to Christians Against Poverty as the local branch closed and we were unable to contribute to Easter Eggs or Christmas hampers for their dients. At Hatvest we gave £203.50 to Ripple Effect and £20 to Weston Foodbank and gave donated harvest items which were divided between the Beacon and Weston Foodbank. We contributed £50 to Bishop Ruth's leaving gift and £25 to Denise Blake's leaving gfft as she had been the Archdeacon's PA for 16 years. Our giving to Missions arKI Charities on page 6 shows that we gave £630 to Interserve for the BLISS project" £210 each to Tearfund. Andrew and Lydia's work at Life Book shop and to St Peterfs Church Youth Drop In Centre, also £105 to support Revd Julie Birkett's work as College Chaplain. World Day of Prayer subs were £15. Work on our roof Carr out in line with the latest Quinquennial late in 2024 by Ellis & Co cost £600. Our krtchen needed an upgrade as the laminate was peeling off the doors and drawer fronts which was removed and appropriate kitthen paint applied for £1,280 and new dishwasher costing £429 was installed. as life gets rather drfficuR for those running the Beacon and on fete and bazaar days without one. The flooring inside the west car parl( door was crumbling and was repaired for £940, with an altemative entran(t and exlt being used whilst the work was being carried out. A new control box was fitted to the Boutter boiler for £440. A new door lock to the car park door and new keys were purchased with New Dawn kindly covering the cost of those they required. A fNe-year electrical inspection was carried out over more than one visit and cost £1,255. Various plumbing repairs during the year carried out by Jason Lucas totalled £640. A wheeled flip chart was purchased to record the results of various meetings and discussions. To assist with parking safely a large tub was placed on the edge of the steps as an aid lo drivers to avoid the sharp edge while in the car park, Ray kindly planted a shrub and spring plants in the tub. Weston Deaf Church. a small charity had trouble accessing their account last year and when they were gifted £500 from Brian Crellin's estate. the solicitor phoned and asked rf we would take the money for them and pass it on when the account was stable. After speaking to those who administer the account l agreed arKI was fortunate in that I was able to BACS the money into 1r account before the end of the year. My thanks go to Keith Bury arKI Mary Passey for care of our church collections which Keith banks. We have paid for the servicing of our gas boilers and fire extinguishers. periodic inspection and testing of our fire alarm system and emergency lights, had our lightning conductor checked and had no outstanding bills at the year end. We now pay a Benefi Share with Christ Church to our DI0Se and the PCC agreed to pay the same as we previously did as rt woukl assist them. Caring for Emmanuel will always be our conrn as well as our outreach, and we need to search our hearts and consider our giving. If you pay income tax, do tell me then I can claim it back {£25p in the £), money paid in through the contsctless device can be daimed as cash in the plate as long as we do nol exceed £8,000. Page 3
