## Incorporation and Objectives

BSMS was incorporated as a charitable incorporated organisation and registered with the Charity Commission on 26[th] March 2019.

The objectives of BSMS, as set out in its constitution are to promote social inclusion for the public benefit by preventing people (particularly but not exclusively older men), within the area of Bishop's Stortford and surrounding area, from becoming socially excluded. Relieving the needs of those people who are socially excluded and assisting them to integrate into society through the provision of facilities in which they can meet to undertake jointly or individually, creative, physical or recreational activities, learn to pass on skills and knowledge and support each other socially. In this context, "socially excluded" means being excluded from society as a result of one or more of the following factors; unemployment; financial hardship; bereavement or old age; ill health (physical or mental.

## Activities

The Shed continued to thrive over the course of the year.

- Membership increased to 15 regular members, with a number of guests also attending from time to time.

- We completed some interesting projects, including a trophy for the canoe club, a platform to allow wheelchair access to a building, a stair handrail, a medal presentation podium and various garden planters.

- Most importantly, the shed had a good social environment and benefitted the attendees (both members and guest).

The biggest issue for the year was that we had outgrown our premises and when the shed was busy, there was no room to work on projects. We therefore spent much of the year

- looking for a new location

- raising funds to allow us to build or refurbish wherever we move to.

Unfortunately on the first of these we were unsuccessful and were still in our old shed at the end of the year (although in the few months after the FY ended we have now found a new home). We were more successful in raising funds and had two generous donations from corporate sponsors totalling £16,000 that will be carried forward to be used when we do move.
