The Trustees are pleased to present their second Trustees report together with the financial statements, for the period to 31 March 2022.
## **Structure, Governance and management**
The Charity was registered as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) on 20 March 2019, and subsequently registered with the Office of the Scottish Charities Regulator on 9 January 2020.
The UK National Park Foundation Members are: Brecon Beacons National Park Authority Broads Authority Cairngorms National Park Authority Lake District National Park Authority National Parks Partnerships Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority Snowdonia National Park Authority Peak District National Park Authority Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park Authority New Forest National Park Authority
## **Membership**
Membership of the CIO is open to anyone who is interested in furthering its purposes, subject to approval by Trustees.
## **Trustees**
The charity must have a minimum of three trustees, with no maximum.
Trustees are appointed following nomination by two National Parks members. For this purpose both National Parks Partnerships and the Broads Authority are deemed to be National Parks members.

## **Objectives and Activities**
## **Charitable Purpose**
The charity is established for the benefit of the public within the areas designated as National Parks in England, Wales and Scotland to support the following objectives and activities while recognising at all times the requirement to respect the special qualities of those designated areas:
1. The preservation, conservation and enhancement of natural and cultural heritage;
2. The promotion of sustainable development by:
(a) the preservation, conservation and the protection of the environment and the prudent use of natural resources;
(b) the promotion of sustainable means of communities achieving rural economic growth and regeneration;
3. The education of the public in the physical and natural environment of the National Parks and their special qualities;
4. The promotion of the National Parks as facilities for appropriate recreation and enjoyment for members of the public at large in the interests of social welfare;
Sustainable development within these objectives means “development which meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs”.
## **Activities**
The Charity refers to itself more commonly as The UK National Parks Foundation.
In the past year the following activity has taken place:
- Via NPP a partnership with fundraising group ‘Pedal 4 Parks’ www.pedal4parks.co.uk an initiative that raised £5,000 for the Foundation in October 2021 and included a presentation at COP26
- Major 5-year £500,000 grant relating to ‘Revere’ secured from the Estée Lauder Companies UK & Ireland
- Setting up a partnership (managed by NPP) with walking app trundl which launched in December 2021, already generating £131
- Ongoing partnership (managed by National Parks Partnerships) with Carousel Calendars, Outdoor ScratchMaps and Adventure Pins www.adventurepins.co.uk whereby 10% from every National Park calendar and £1 from every National Park pin and Map sold goes to the UK National Parks Foundation.
- Continued registering of the Charity on ‘Amazon Smile’ which has generated £24 in the financial year covered by this report.
- AGM held on 21 May 2021.

## **Achievements and performance**
The main focus of trustees in this reporting period has been working with NPP on the establishment of the first major supporter for the Charity – Estée Lauder Companies UK & Ireland (ELC) (see below) and on continuing our first income generating relationships and beginning the process of drawing together funds for future disbursement in support of our charitable objectives.
## **ELC**
ELC joined as a Founding Partner of Revere in October 2021 but would not have been able to do so had the UKNP Foundation not been available to accept their funding as they are not permitted to direct partnership funds via commercial organisations.
ELC have pledged £500,000 over 5 years to support the development of innovative projects within the Revere initiative between 2021 and 2026, £450k of which will be directed though the Foundation.
The first grant of £90k for 2022 is awarded to the Lake District National Park for a water quality project in Lake Windemere.
To maximise the impact of the ELC funding, the Foundation is launching a programme that will promote the availability of the funding to all of the National Parks, and deliver maximum impact, under the title ‘ _Estee Lauder Companies Nature Innovation Grants_ .
During 2022 Revere will promote the £360k of available funding to all the National Parks and support an application process that will help Parks to identify projects that meet Revere criteria. Our focus is to drive applications on a rolling basis, to maximise opportunities for Parks to apply and to aid identification of nascent opportunities.
We anticipate that the funding will cover the development of 2 or 3 additional projects between 20222026, in addition to the Lake Windemere project.
An additional benefit is that this application process will help to drive the identification of many more projects – all of which will enter Revere’s origination portfolio, for which Revere will seek additional funding. In this way, the ELC grants will help drive much more action than just the funded projects.
Emerging from the COVID19 pandemic has enabled for greater activity in support of the UK National Parks Foundation. The ‘Pedal 4 Parks’ referenced in our summary of activities was originally planned to take place during 2020 and deferred because of the pandemic. We are delighted that the organisers completed their challenge in summer 2021 and promoted their efforts, together with NPP representatives, in the UN Pavilion at COP26 and as a result donated £5,000 to the Foundation in October 2021.
## **Financial review**
By the end of 21/22, thanks to both fundraising events and ongoing product related partnerships, £9,579.40 had been accumulated in the charity’s bank account. This shows a broadening of areas of income for the charity which is positive. Trustees began discussions about how best to distributed these funds toward charitable projects. Our plans are outlined below.

Trustees and our colleagues at National Park Partnerships who have supported us in seeking to deliver our fundraising ambitions have been careful to avoid damaging any potential charitable income generation activities being pursued by charities based within individual National Parks. We believe our actions since formation have caused no adverse impacts for any National Parks and will continue to work to ensure there are no negative consequences for charities based within the National Parks or for the National Park organisations.
## **Plans for the future**
In 2022/23 the Charity will make grants available to the NPAs as follows:
1 x £90,000 Estee Lauder Companies UK & Ireland Revere Innovation Fund Grant
1 x £5,000 Pedals 4 Parks National Parks Protectors Grant
1 x £5k grant to be directed to an initiative in any of the 3 following areas:
- Equality, Diversity & Inclusion;
- Physical access; or
- Climate change
## **Membership of the Charity**
Trustees also recognise that since establishment of the Foundation on 20 March 2019, we have secured membership of nine of the UK’s 15 National Parks. Now that we have significant funds available for distribution and have demonstrated the non-clash principles by which we operate (avoiding negative effects on local fundraising) we would welcome applications from the remaining NPAs to become members of the Charity. However, membership of the Charity is not a requirement for receiving funds.
The Foundation will also continue to have regard for the benefit of all National Parks in planning and delivering its work.
We will continue to have dialogue with any parties interested in securing our charitable objectives in order to ensure the Foundation sits well within the overall framework of organisations working for the benefit of National Parks in England, Wales and Scotland.

The charity considers its key management personnel comprises of the Trustees only. No Trustees received remuneration during the period from the Charity
