## . **5  Objectives and activities** 

. Charitable purposes. The Lions Club of Chepstow and Caldicot will consider many projects that fall within the following five areas; these are Vision, the Environment, Hunger, Paediatric Cancer and Diabetes. As well as providing grants to other deserving causes within the local communities. Supporting disasters and aid efforts around the world mainly through Lions International Foundation.

. **T** he objects of the club are such purposes as are exclusively charitable in England & wales. Advancement of citizenship by promoting the principles of good citizenship encouraging members to take an active interest in the civic, cultural, social and moral welfare of the community. Providing a forum for the open discussion of all matters of public interest; provided that members shall not debate partisan politics and sectarian religion. Encouraging service-minded people to serve their community without personal reward and encouraging the promotion of high ethical standards in commerce, industry, professions, public works and private endeavours. Supporting youth to develop their skills, capacities and capabilities to enable them to participate in society as mature and responsible individuals. Promoting the voluntary sector for the public benefit by associating with local authorities in a common effort to advance education and provide facilities in the interests of social welfare for recreation or other leisure 



time occupation to improve the conditions of life of people in local, national and international communities. 

Promoting volunteering, the relief of poverty and the relief of those in need in particular by providing humanitarian aid and disaster relief, the advancement of health or the saving of lives by preventing avoidable blindness. Assisting disabled people to lead independent lives or helping to prevent or manage health issues; promoting for the benefit of the public the conservation protection and improvement of the physical and natural environment and/or promoting community participation in healthy recreation.

- . In some cases money collected for a specific cause and 100% will go to that cause e.g. Marie Curie and the Children’s hospice.

- . The majority of funds raised are not specified or Lions general funds. But as public money these funds are held in The Club Charity Account 

## . **10  Summary of Activity for the period** 

- . The charities main activity is to raise money by various events and collections as listed 

- Christmas Food Parcel Collections 

- Supermarket Collections 

- Easter Egg Raffles 

- Local Street Fairs & Fetes 

## • **Money collected is then distributed by grants to deserving causes as follows:-** 

- LCIF 

- Wye Valley Gym 

- Provision of Public defibrillators 

- Chepstow Food Bank 

- Caldicot Food Bank 

- Chepstow Boxing Club 



- Chepstow School Breakfast Club 

- Phippipines 

- Tea and biscuits for key workers 

- Tea and biscuits for District Nurses 

- **11 Future Outlook** 

The latter part of this period was severely affected by Lockdown restrictions due to Covid 19. This has hampered fund raising activity considerably and contributed to the Club’s lack of funds in The Charity Account. However it is hoped that next Lionistic period will see a return to more normal activity for the club. This will no doubt increase our funds through greater fund raising opportunities
