Wallington Community Wellbeing Charity
Registered Charity No. 1182560
Trustees’ Annual Report for the Year 1[st] June 2024 to 31[st] May 2025
Overview
The Charity has continued to deliver a busy and productive programme of activities during the 2024–2025 year, maintaining its focus on improving community health and wellbeing and addressing local health inequalities.
Community Health & Wellbeing Events
Our bi-annual Health & Wellbeing events at Holy Trinity Church and Centre Wallington continue to attract a large number of visitors and stallholders. These events remain an important opportunity for local residents to access information, support, and services. The NHS Vaccination Team again attended to provide Seasonal RSV, Covid and Flu booster vaccinations for those eligible and wishing to receive them. As in previous years, the events also included taster sessions of health-related activities and specialist workshops, including talks by local solicitors.
In addition to these larger events, three further outreach events were held at the St Paul’s Church in Roundshaw. These sessions aimed to bring a range of health advice, support services, and information directly to residents in an area recognised as experiencing higher levels of deprivation and associated health inequalities in particular Mental Health & Dementia.
Activities and Community Participation
Our programme of regular health and activity sessions continued throughout the year. These included two Chair-Supported Yoga classes, two Tai Chi classes, the ongoing Exercise After Stroke group, and two well-attended local Healthy Walks. Participation levels across these activities remained high, with growing waiting lists continuing for several sessions as they grew in popularity.
The Charity’s annual Calendar of Activities continues to be widely distributed and remains a valued resource for local residents seeking opportunities to improve their health and wellbeing. The calendar is also provided to the local NHS hospital and many NHS services in the Borough.
Partnership Working
The Charity continues to work closely in partnership with the local NHS to support engagement with residents and to contribute to initiatives addressing health inequalities. The Charity Chair’s role as Co-Chair of the NHS Wallington Integrated Neighbourhood Team (INT) has strengthened this partnership.
Through this collaboration, the Charity supports the Wallington INT 'Healthy You' project, which focuses on addressing specific health needs identified through local data. Monthly drop-in sessions and periodic events are delivered as part of this initiative, with the Charity hosting sessions and providing organisational and administrative support.
Mental Health and Community Support Initiatives
Together with the partnership between the Charity and the NHS that provides the 'Healthy You' initiative, the Charity also formed a further close partnership with the Vicar of South Beddington and Roundshaw Parish. This new three-way partnership enabled us to explore local issues surrounding mental health, including dementia and look at ways to use the local church as a venue.
The Charity was fortunate to secure a grant from the Council Local Committee to support a series of talks and information sessions for residents on these important topics.
As part of this ongoing initiative, the provision of 'Man Space' within the church began in January 2025. This offers a welcoming environment where men can come together to talk, walk, and support one another through peer connections. The project is run by men for men and has already proved extremely popular, providing valuable opportunities for social connection and informal support.
Trustee and Volunteer Contributions
Trustees and committee members have remained active in supporting the wider voluntary and health sectors. Many continue to contribute their expertise by serving as trustees or volunteers with other charities and by participating as speakers and presenters at community and healthrelated events.
Trustees and committee members also contribute to the work of the NHS through participation in Patient Participation Groups, NHS committees, Healthwatch, and other related forums. This involvement has helped ensure that the Charity remains well connected with local health systems and widely recognised as a knowledgeable and trusted voice on community health and wellbeing needs within the Borough.
Strategic Engagement
During the year, the Charity Chair continued to serve on various health related Boards and Committees ensuring the Charity contributes to strategic discussions around improving health outcomes locally.
Conclusion
Overall, the Charity has maintained a strong level of activity and engagement throughout the year, continuing to support the health and wellbeing of local residents while working collaboratively with partners across the voluntary and health sectors. This has resulted in two new much needed projects being formed during the year.
