Para 1.17 Bolton Smiley Faces provide monthly
support group meetings with activities to
support children who have Downs Syndrome
living in Bolton and the surrounding areas to
include speech therapy, art therapy, music
therapy, signalong, activities to support
development of fine and gross motor skills.
We also provide family activities during
school holidays.

For the reporting period the charity provided
monthly support group meetings which
included speech therapy and music therapy
sessions for the children who have Down’s
Syndrome. The charity also delivered school
holiday activities for its members to include
forest school activities and visits to local
attractions. This year we also funded football
sessions for the children. Funds were also
used to provide an annual Christmas party
for members to include entertainment, food,
and a gift for each child. New Parent packs
were made and delivered to the local
hospital to support new parents and those
given a prenatal diagnosis of Down’s
Syndrome. In addition, the charity also
funded 5 children to attend Rainbow Hub, an
organisation which supports the
development in walking. Finally, the charity
subsidies a short break for 9 families, and
funded a visit to the zoo for 68 members.

Para 1.20 This year the charity has continued to
provide vital support to families who have a
child with Down’s Syndrome in the form of
monthly support group meetings where
parents network and form friendships,
making parents feel less isolated and better
informed about the condition. Sessions
include activities tailored to aiding the
development of children who have Down’s
Syndrome to include speech and language
therapy, music therapy, art therapy,
development of gross and fine motor skills.
New Parents and those with a diagnosis of
Down’s Syndrome are given information and
advice at the earliest opportunity to enable
them to feel fully supported. The charity now
offers weekly football sessions to its
members, developing social skills, gross
motor skills, communication skills, and the
families have given excellent feedback on
these sessions.
