Trustees Report and Financial Statements for the year to 30 September 2023

The Trustees of Castleton Silver Band (the ‘Band’) submit their report and the financial statements of the Band for the year ended 30th September 2023.

Structure

The Band was registered as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) on 15[th] March 2019. The charity number is 1182481. The trustees are Martin Capps, Phil Creswick (Chair), Emma Norling, John Whitfield (MD). All band members and parents of training band members are eligible to be members of the CIO.

There are two bands – the senior and the training band. It has been exciting to watch trainees progress, some into the senior band. It is also excellent that many of the senior band attend training band rehearsals to support the trainees.

All members have contributed to the success of the band. However mention should be made of the following: Leo Copley (Training Band leader and inspiration), Tess Lomas (Safeguarding officer), Martin Capps (i/c Instruments), Jane Priestley (bookings), Sue Creswick (Treasurer), Emma Norling (standardising music) and Amy Secker (uniforms).

Activities

The main events of the 15 months (financial year and the rest of 2023) included:,

Financial Review

The net deficit for the year to 30[th] September 2023 was £3,818 (£69 for the previous year). The largest items of expenditure were the purchase of a Bb bass, a baritone and new folders for marches and other music.

Risk management

As a member of Brass Bands England, the Band benefits from advice and training to help the band better understand and guard against safeguarding issues. All members have received a copy of the policy and procedures; members who give lessons to the training band have had DBS checks. Other risks are covered by insurance and licenses.
