Castleton Silver Band Trustees Report for the year to 30 September 2022
The Trustees of Castleton Silver Band (the ‘Band’) submit their report and the financial statements of the Band for the year ended 30th September 2022.
Structure
The Band was registered as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) on 15[th] March 2019. The charity number is 1182481. The trustees are Mrs Cath Batley, Mr Philip Creswick, Mr Don Hoggarth, Mr John Whitfield. All band members and parents of training band members are eligible to be members of the CIO.
At the 2022 AGM new trustees will be appointed to take over from Don Hoggarth and Cath Batley who have retired after many years of service to the Band.
The Trustees would like to thank all who provide support and guidance to the Training Band (especially Leo Copley, the de facto leader of the Training Band), and to those who help us all with music and uniforms.
Activities
During the year, band rehearsals returned to the Sports Pavillion in Hope. The events of the year included:,

Playing at series of village events including Castleton’s Palm Sunday parade, galas in Hope, Bradwell, Bamford, Barlow and Eyam, blessings of Wells in Hope, Bradwell, Bamford and Barlow, the Bradwell torchlight parade, the Castleton Garland and the Parwich St George’s parade.

Christmas playing – Carols in Peak cavern, Bakewell Christmas market, Ashgate Hospice and pop-up carols in Hope and Castleton and outside various local pubs.

Six members graduated from the Training Band to the senior band.

The training band welcomed a number of new learners (including our first training band Tuba).

We have been asked by the Hope Pavilion committee to find another storage facility for instruments and excess music. The search continues; planning permission was denied for an additional small store inside the sports ground.
Financial Review
The net deficit for the year to 30[th] September 2021 was £69 ( a surplus of £632 for the previous year). The largest item of expenditure was the purchase of a replacement tenor horn.
Risk management
As a member of Brass Bands England, the Band benefits from advice and training to help the band better understand and guard against safeguarding issues. All members have received a copy of the policy and procedures; members who give lessons to the training band have had DBS checks. Other risks are covered by insurance and licenses.
Small company
This report has been prepared in accordance with the provisions applicable to small charities.

The only assets recognised are the bank accounts. Instruments are not capitalised.

A new tenor horn was bought during the year, replacing an old irreparable instrument.

The planning permission, which was not granted, was for a storage container based at the Hope Pavilion.
