## **Castleton Silver Band Trustees Report for the year to 30 September 2020** 

The Trustees of Castleton Silver Band (the ‘Band’) submit their report and the financial statements of the Band for the year ended 30th September 2020. 

## **Structure** 

The Band was registered as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) on 15[th] March 2019. The charity number is 1182481.  The trustees are  Mrs Cath Batley, Mr Philip Cresswick, Mr Don Hoggarth, Mr John Whitfield.  They were all appointed by the members on 11[th] March 2019.  All band members and parents of training band members are eligible to be members of the CIO. 

## **Objectives and Activities** 

The main activities of the two bands are rehearsals and performing. 

- The main performances in the year included participation in many community events in villages including Castleton, Bradwell, Hope, Bamford, Barlow, Parwich, Whaley Bridge and Eyam. 

- The training band join the senior band at the Hope Wakes concert and the Castleton Garland procession.  Traditionally they also play without support at the Castleton Christmas Tree Festival. 

In the year to 30 September 2020 the band was busy with Christmas activities.  The Training Band had new members – parents wishing to learn alongside their children and a lapsed brass players wanting to regain those skills.  Activities stopped in March 2020 because of the coronavirus lockdown. 

Some members of the Training Band reconvened in October for Zoom sessions and some of the senior band came together in smaller groups for pop-up Christmas carols around the villages.  Full band rehearsals started at the end of May, taking measures including full social distancing when playing and bell covers when playing inside. 

## **Financial Review** 

The net surplus for the year to 30[th] September was £1,142 ( £9,137 for the year to .  In the year, the band received a substantial donation from a benefactor and fees in respect of earlier years.  The major expenditure is a set of new uniform for wet weather outdoor engagements. 

## **Risk management** 

The band has become a member of Brass Bands England.  They have provided advice and training to help the band better understand and guard against safeguarding issues. All members have received a copy of the policy and procedures; members who give lessons to the training band have had DBS checks.  Other risks are covered by insurance and licenses. 

## **Small company** 

This report has been prepared in accordance with the provisions applicable to small charities.

1. These accounts are drawn up on a cash basis. 

2. The only assets recognised are the bank accounts.  Instruments are not capitalised. 

3. The Grants was from Derbyshire County Council (2019 also included a grant from High Peak Borough Council) 

4. A fund raising concert raised £285 for Jessops hospital in Sheffield.  (In the year to 30 September 2019 £105 was collected at a concert at the Ladybower hotel for the Royal British Legion.)
