Trustees Annual Report
The primary aim of Hawkesbury Pre-school Playgroup & Daycare is to provide high quality daycare that enhances the development, care and education of pre-school children in a safe and stimulating environment, where they learn through play in partnership with parents. We provide playgroup sessions, daycare, wraparound care and a walking bus for the nursery children of the local primary school.
We are continuing to use the smaller room in the community centre due to the lower rental rates but this also allows the children free flow to the garden during sessions. We advertise available places at the local school and online through Facebook. Due to low children numbers again this year it was decided to only have one walking bus group for the nursery children who go to Mountain Lane. This has saved our group a considerable amount in rents and wages due to opening all day one week and then only for the morning sessions the following week.
Playgroup was inspected by CIW on 22nd November 2024 and we achieved ‘Good’ over all categories.
Minimum wage increased again April 2025 but this time the funding for Early Entitlement and the Childcare Offer has also increased to £6.40 per hour. The funding rate will now be reviewed yearly.
Staff attend all essential training and have the necessary up to date certificates in First Aid, Safeguarding, Food Hygiene and Prevent Duty. One member of staff has completed Level 2 Childcare qualification and is now enrolled on Level 3 and another member of staff has completed the Social Care Wales Framework. Playgroup continues to focus on the wellbeing of both children and staff and we gather information/feedback from all sources to ensure that we evaluate and implement any improvements where necessary.
The community centre management committee have kept the rents the same again this year. The centre was repainted inside over the summer holidays and the paving slabs to the rear were taken up and levelled as they had become uneven and were a trip hazard. They have also approved the purchase of a new fridge freezer.
Funding was received again this year from Early Years Wales to put towards the insurance for the year which is one of our main expenses.
Parents have continued to support the playgroup and have raised funds this year totalling £450.00 which has been used towards new toys and equipment together with running costs. One of the outside garden storage boxes has been replaced due to it being broken. This was donated by a family member of one of the staff. Two bookcases were donated to our group by a local playgroup which was closing down.
Our staff continue to be excellent role models for the children and encourage good social skills and give lots of praise and encouragement which promotes all areas of learning and their holistic development. All staff ensure that every child feels happy, safe and secure during their time with us.
