Hawkesbury Pre-school Playgroup
Trustees Annual Report
The primary aim of Hawkesbury Pre-school Playgroup & Daycare is to provide high quality daycare that enhances the development, care and education of pre-school children in a safe and stimulating environment, where they learn through play in partnership with parents. We provide playgroup sessions, wraparound care and a walking bus for the nursery children of the local primary school.
This year due to the continuing trend of low children numbers the committee made the decision to apply to CIW to lower the intake range to 2 years instead of 2 years 6 months. This was approved by CIW December 2023. This allowed a number of children on our waiting list who were just below the intake age to start which helped raise funds. We are also continuing to use the smaller room in the centre which has lower rental rates but also allows free flow to the garden during sessions. We also advertise available places at the local school and online through Facebook.
Minimum wage has increased again but Early Entitlement and the Childcare Offer funding remain the same - the funding rates are due to be reviewed 2025.
Staff attend all essential training and have the necessary up to date certificates in First Aid, Safeguarding, Food Hygiene and Prevent Duty. Our setting also received funding from Early Entitlement for their continuous professional development in the new curriculum. Playgroup continues to focus on the wellbeing of both children and staff and we gather information/feedback from all sources to ensure that we evaluate and implement any improvements where necessary.
Early Entitlement funding was also received for extra staff hours above the adult:child ratios to provide extra support for the children’s care, learning and development.
The Community Centre Management Committee at their AGM in April 2024 agreed not to raise rents this year. The committee also approved and carried out improvements to the area around the tree by removing the large rocks and replacing with sleepers and bark.
Funding was received from Early Years Wales to cover the insurance for the year which is one of our main expenses.
We were inspected in May 2024 for food hygiene and awarded Level 5.
Parents have continued to support the playgroup and have raised funds this year with a sponsored treasure hunt and have also provided donations of snack, stationery and cleaning supplies. This has made a substantial difference in the outlay for these items compared to previous years.
Our staff continue to be excellent role models for the children and encourage good social skills and give lots of praise and encouragement which promotes all areas of learning and their holistic development. All staff ensure that every child feels happy, safe and secure during their time with us.
