Hawkesbury Pre-school Playgroup

Trustees Annual Report

The primary aim of Hawkesbury Pre-school Playgroup & Daycare is to provide high quality daycare that enhances the development, care and education of pre-school children in a safe and stimulating environment, where they learn through play in partnership with parents.

The new curriculum for Wales launched September 2022 and staff have continued to attend training and also have used funding received from Early Entitlement to consolidate their learning in delivering the new curriculum

Children numbers have continued to remain low compared to pre-pandemic levels, minimum wage has increased but the funding that we receive from the local government has again not been increased.

Staff continue to have all the relevant certificates up to date (enhanced DBS, safeguarding, first aid, food hygiene) Supervisions and appraisals are undertaken regularly to identify areas for continuous professional development.

Playgroup continues to focus on the wellbeing of both children and staff and we gather information/feedback from all sources to ensure that we evaluate and implement any improvements where necessary. We are also focussing on identifying next steps for all children to help fully develop their behaviour, listening and social skills. These are areas which we have found to be underdeveloped again this year.

We are making full use of the community centre garden which leads off the playroom. We have been granted permission by the centre committee to have extra storage boxes in the garden which enables the children to choose what they wish to play with in line with their interests and the new curriculum. We have also been given permission to move our storage cupboard which now also leads directly off the playroom which makes set up and tidy up time much easier for staff.

Our staff are excellent role models for the children and encourage good social skills and give lots of praise and encouragement which promotes all areas of learning and their holistic development. All staff ensure that every child feels happy, safe and secure during their time with us.
