Hawkesbury Pre-school Playgroup
Trustees Annual Report
Playgroup has continued to operate in difficult conditions this year. Children numbers are very low in comparison to pre-pandemic levels, running costs have increased with the minimum wage rise but the childcare offer and early entitlement funding rate remains unchanged since 2017. The community centre committee allowed us to defer part of our rent payments until we received the Early Entitlement funding in January and then again at Easter. We were then able to clear all arrears before the end of the school year. Bookings for the walking bus and wraparound for September 2022 have also increased which is a good sign.
Staff have all the relevant certificates up to date (safeguarding, first aid, food hygiene) and have also undergone training in readiness for the New Curriculum being launched in Wales in September 2022. Supervisions and appraisals are undertaken regularly to identify areas for continuous professional development.
Playgroup continues to focus on the wellbeing of both children and staff and we gather information/feedback from all sources to ensure that we evaluate and implement any improvements where necessary. We are also focussing on identifying next steps for all children to help fully develop their behaviour, listening and social skills. These are areas which we have found to be underdeveloped due to the lockdown.
Several grants have been awarded for new resources, new curriculum training, insurance contribution and laptop and printer.
Parents/carers are very supportive in raising funds for our group. The money raised this year has purchased new toys and the remaining put towards running costs.
We are making full use of the community centre garden this year due to the improvements made during the summer months, artificial grass and an undercover area. We have also purchased a small mud kitchen which can be stored away easily due to our group being a pack away setting.
We have also applied to the community centre committee for extra storage for the garden area in readiness for the new curriculum which will allow children to access toys and equipment independently according to their interests. This will promote all areas of learning and their holistic development.
Our staff are excellent role models for the children and encourage good social skills and give lots of praise and encouragement. All staff ensure that every child feels happy, safe and secure during their time with us.
