Membership of the group is open to all those aged 14 and above. For ages 14 to 18 written parental or guardian permission is required. The day to day running of the Group is carried out by the trustees with financial decisions being taken by a simple majority vote. The Group work directly with the Local Government Authorities of Somerset County Council, North Somerset Council & Bristol City & County Council as well as Category 1 & 2 services providing additional communications support and is an affiliate member of the National organisation RAYNET-UK. |

When discussing the events the group have been requested to assist with, the Trustees ensure that the Charity Commission’s guidance on public benefit is kept in mind.
The main activities covered during this period were to provide event and safety communications for the following Charitable Organisations. Channel Events – Mendip Murmuration 11th June 2022. This event is a mountain bike race covering 35 miles of the Mendip Hills AONB, our services are used to provide resilient and reliable radio communications due to mobile phones not working over the terrain to ensure rider safety. Relish Running Races – Cheddar Gorge Challenge 12th June 2022. This event is a series of cross-country running races over the Mendip Hills AONB covering various distances up to and including a half marathon. This event is held around the Ashton Court Estate and comprises of a 1.5-mile and a 5-mile leisurely family walk around the estate to raise monies for Parkinsons. The Groups involvement is to assist with event and safety communications via radio communications. Cheddar Running Clubs Annual Big Cheese 26th March 2023. This event is a sponsored run raising money for the Air Ambulance Service which takes place along the Mendip Way around Cheddar Gorge, our services are used to provide resilient and reliable radio communications due to mobile phones not working over the terrain to ensure runners safety.

Our members are all volunteers and provide their time, equipment, and expertise as licensed radio amateurs freely for the benefit of our local communities and the organisations supporting them.
The Group use donations received to acquire new equipment to assist in the provision of resilient and reliable communications for situations when other forms of communications fail.

Section D Achievements and performance
Summary of the main Bristol & Somerset RAYNET Group have attended several events this achievements of the charity year including a live callout providing event and safety communications during the year for events that would otherwise not be possible to run due to the lack of reliable communication routes. The organisations we have worked with have all expressed their thanks for the professional service we provide both on the event and with the assistance of their planning. The Group are very experienced in setting up and running communications facilities over challenging terrain and many of our members are long serving. We have worked with several of the organisations listed above for many years now through several staff changes and our experience is always valued and appreciated when planning the events.
Section E Financial review
Cash at bank as of 5th April 2023 was £----.-- in unrestricted funds. Bristol & Somerset RAYNET Group’s only income is from donations received, it makes no charge for the services it provides to the organisations or communities it supports. The Group applied for a Grant from the Local Resilience Forum for the purchase of digital repeater and radio equipment and this application is ongoing pending review.

Section F Other optional information Future Plans. The Group are looking to be able to purchase digital radios and repeaters to broaden the areas we are able to cover when providing additional communications support and to have more secure communications options. Alongside this additional power sources are being invests'gated in the form of Lithium-ion batteries and generators to become more resilient when OFerating away from mains power or in the event of a local or more regionalised power outage.
