When discussing the events, the group have been requested to assist with, the Trustees ensure that the Charity Commission’s guidance on public benefit is kept in mind.

Unfortunately, 2022 started with Covid-19 still very much on people’s minds. One thing that was definitely not being considered was the weather issues in February which caused the Avon & Somerset LRF to activate the group with a view to assisting with communications support. The initial telephone call from the LRF Deputy Lead at 15.00 Thursday resulted links being set up between A&S Police HQ in Portishead and Bristol CC main control room in Temple Meads. This link was manned by members of the group from Friday 05.00 until 15.00 when the worst of the storms were considered as past and we were stood down. The main activities covered during this period were to provide event and safety communications for the following Charitable Organisations. Cheddar Running Clubs Annual Big Cheese 20[th] March. This event is a sponsored run raising money for the Air Ambulance Service which takes place along the Mendip Way around Cheddar Gorge, our services are used to provide resilient and reliable radio communications due to mobile phones not working over the terrain to Summary of the main ensure runners safety. activities undertaken for the Channel Events – Mendip Murmuration 11[th] June. public benefit in relation to This event is a mountain bike race covering 35 miles of the Mendip Hills these objects (include within AONB, our services are used to provide resilient and reliable radio this section the statutory communications due to mobile phones not working over the terrain to declaration that trustees have ensure rider safety. had regard to the guidance Relish Running Races – Cheddar Gorge Challenge 12[th] June. issued by the Charity This event is a series of cross-country running races over the Mendip Commission on public Hills AONB covering various distances up to and including a half benefit) marathon. Woodspring Wings – International Model Air Show 9[th] & 10[th] July. This event takes place between Bristol and Weston-super-Mare and is one of the largest model air shows in Europe. Our role here was to control the radio network and to run the control room to ensure clear lines of communications were maintained at all times. Relish Running Races – Cheddar 10k Road Race 17[th] September. This event is a closed road sponsored ran through the stunning Cheddar Gorge where our services are again required to provide resilient and reliable event and safety radio communications due to mobile phones not working over the terrain. Parkinsons Walk for Life – 30[th] October. This event is held around the Ashton Court Estate and comprises of a 1.5-mile and a 5-mile leisurely family walk around the estate to raise monies for Parkinsons. Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year

Bristol & Somerset RAYNET Group have attended several events this year including a live callout providing event and safety communications for events that would otherwise not be possible to run due to the lack of reliable communication routes. The organisations we have worked with have all expressed their thanks for the professional service we provide both on the event and with the assistance of their planning. The Group are very experienced in setting up and running communications facilities over challenging terrain and many of our members are long serving. We have worked with several of the organisations listed above for many years now through several staff changes and our experience is always valued and appreciated when planning the events.

Further financial review details (Optional information)

You may choose to include additional information, where relevant about:

Bristol & Somerset RAYNET Group’s only income is from donations received, it makes no charge for the services it provides to the organisations or communities it supports. The Group received donations during 2020 which have yet to be allocated to any specific projects however it is expected they will be used to modernise the groups radio system. Without this support Bristol & Somerset RAYNET Group would be very limited as to the level of support it would be able to provide.

Future Plans.

Having received a large donation, the Group will be looking to purchase a DMR Repeater to broaden the areas we are able to cover when providing additional communications support.
