Alice Holt Inclusive Cycling,

Annual report for 2022

Charity number 1182422

Alice Holt Inclusive Cycling (AHIC) has had a very successful year. AHIC were able to start weekly sessions at the beginning of February and continued throughout the year and stopping on the 15[th] of December for the usual winter break. During the year AHIC provided assisted cycling for 661 clients excluding their carers at an average attendance of 13.2 clients per session. This was the second highest total AHIC have achieved since records began in 2014. (If required, carers are provided with two-wheeler bikes at no charge). AHIC also put on two special events at weekends for holiday groups from London in the summer and once again AHIC were able to provide cycling on two afternoons each week for a local special school during the summer term.

AHIC have welcomed the addition of three new volunteers who have joined our organization making the number of volunteers 13 in all, a healthy situation to be in. One of our long serving and dedicated volunteer, Mel resigned in the summer for personal reasons. AHIC thank him for all he has done for AHIC as a volunteer and trustee, AHIC wish him well for the future.

AHIC were awarded two large grants from local charities and some smaller donations during the year. The first grant was for £10,000 which enabled us to purchase three new cycles; a VanRaam Fu2Go side by side trike; a Van Raam Easyrider single seat recumbent trike and a adult Pashley TR1 tricycle which is to replace one of the existing trikes that has seen better days. It was gratifying to be able to invite representatives from the charitable foundation to come to Alice Holt Forest to see the arrival of the new cycles that their donation had facilitated. AHIC also purchased a hand trike from existing funds to replace one of their existing cycles whose frame collapsed beyond repair. With another grant of £1,500 from a local charity AHIC have sent all our 2 wheeled cycles and an old Draisin recumbent for servicing. Many of the minor repairs and servicing have been carried out by AHIC volunteers.

Relations with Forestry England have developed into a very satisfactory working relationship. Likewise AHIC have developed a good working relationship with the Southern E Bike rentals, the cycle hire company working at Alice Holt Forest. Both the staff of Forestry England and Southern E Bike rentals have access to our fleet of bikes and make them available for disabled clients when AHIC are not open.

Sadly relations with Cycling UK are virtually nonexistent. Despite the fact that AHIC are an affiliated group with them, they take no interest in AHIC or promote AHIC activities.

AHIC finished the year in a strong financial position (see the financial report). AHIC plan to replace the old and worn out cycles as and when there are sufficient funds available in 2023. AHIC have no plans to purchase additional new cycles because there is no room to store them at present.

Regular Trustee meetings and volunteer meetings continued to be held during the year together with an Annual General Meeting.
