The trustees present their annual report and financial statements of Monk Fryston and Hillam Community Association ( the Charity ) for the year ended 31 March 2025. Objectlves and alms The objective of the Charity 18 the provislon and maintenance of a Community Centre and Playground forthe us8 of resldents of Monk Fryston and Hillam and the neighbourhood. Publlc ben8flt The charity was established for th8 provision and maintenance of 8 Community Centr8 and Playground for the use of residents of Monk Fryston and Hillam and the neighbourhood. The Trustee8 conflmi that Ihey have complied wlth the reqU1MentS of sectlon 4 of Ihe Charities Act 2011 to have due regard to the publlc benefit guidance published by the Charity Commissioners for England and Wal88. Achlavfjment8 and perfomianeo l am pleased to report that the Centre is now in u8e every evening of the week and most weekends, with alm08t all of our user groups running at full capacity. It is great to see the Centre in such high demand and that18 testament to the quallty of the faclllty that we have created and maintain a8 a Communlty. We were thankfully abl8 lo run a near full calendar of events during the year. )lIst the ev8nt8 were 8UCC8ssful, in that a good time was had by all, a combination of changed habit8 and the squeeze on people's pockets meant that they didn't generale income for the charity that we achieved in previous years but we continue to evolve the events to mak8 them appeal to a8 many p8ople and d8mographic$ as p088ible. We made good progress through our118t of development prolect8 Ihal was created with Community Input in January 2022 but partly as a result of the difficulty in getting contractors to do the job8 and as som9 require multiple year8 of fundraising to achieve, Some are still out51anding and as a result we are still carrying the reserves lo complete these projects. It Is expected that a significant proportion of our reserves will be used to fund these projects In 2026. Capital Spend durlng the year included.. Replacement tables, chairs and benches for use withln the Centre, Removal of several old trees that W8re in danger of falling and causing damage, Additional outdoor seating Remaining 'big ticket, items include projects such as building an Entrance Foyer to the Centre, adding a canopy to its south side, optimising storage opportunities both within and in the Communily Centre grounds and Major redevelopment of some ofthe ageing 818m8nt8 ofthe playground. Some of the88 It8ms have etther now been done or actively being worked on, such as liaising with the Parish Council to improve the playground facililies. The Community Association continued to act as the lead organisatlon of a Village wide project to make all th6 Community buildings within the villages carbon neutral. The sustainability work undertaken in 2021 and early 2022, has helped us mrtigate the worst of the Cuent energy Grisis and cost increas85. It also helped us obtain a 2 -year granl from the Lottery Fund lo lead a Village wide Community Engagement and capital enhancem8nt program at the Communty Centre. In the last few years we replaced our gas Ix)iler with an air source heal pump, installed a second battery Page 5
to allow u5 to store more of the energy we generate via our solar panels and additional energy efficiency work was also undertaken. As a result we are now energy self-sufficient for half of the year and have removed the use of polluting gas ¢ompletely. Flnanclal During the year we staged 3 fundralsing everrts., Beer Festlval in September 2024 Fireworks Event in November 2024 The Wise Owl Quiz in February 2025 Combined, these generated a small deficit as a result of a payment of £5,000 to one of our fundraising partners which wa5 paid during the period but related to the previous year. Our rental income, from both regular and casual users, has risen slightly at £25,313 (2024.. £20,184) of income for the year. This was a result of increased u8e of the Centre and the first Increa8e In prlces to user8 for many years. A8 noted above, a large proportion of our cash funds are designated for work to the playground and other projects which will be signlflcant. Events of the yoar l am v8ry pleased to report that Use of the Community Centre, playground and other faciliti88 18 very good. We hav8 played an active part in holding the 11th village Beer Fest with the school PTA and held a very popular Village Flrework Event wlth our partner8 the Cricket and Football Club. I wish to thank the Communily A880ciation Tru8tee8, Member8, Professional Advl8or8, Frlends of the Association, the Parish Councillors of Hillam and Monk Fryston and the Officer8 of the Assoclation and anyone who helped out at an event for their active support dunng the past year.
