## REPORT OF THE TRUSTEES FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 sT AUGUST 2025
## INTRODUCTION
The Trustees present their report and the financial statements of the Charity for the year ended 31[ st ] August 2025.
## TRUSTEES
The trustees that have held office during the whole of the period from 1[ st ] September 2025 to the date of this report are as follows;

## STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT
The Charity is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) set up in England. Its governing document is its Constitution (February 2019).
The Charity operates under the guidance of a Committee of Trustees and the Committee is subject to a maximum of nine Trustees serving at any one time.
Trustees are appointed at the discretion of the existing Committee of Trustees subject to the eligibility criteria, namely that any Trustee must also be a paid up Member or Friend of the Society during any and all years in which they serve as Trustee. Any Member who wishes to be considered for Trusteeship may put themselves forward in time for discussion at the Charity's Annual General Meeting which is held in May, and must be nominated and seconded by paid-up Members of the Society.
## OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES
The principal objective of the Charity is to educate the public in the dramatic and operatic arts, principally the works of Gilbert and Sullivan, and to further the development of public appreciation and taste in the said arts. To this end the Charity's principal activities are in organising rehearsals and performances of works by Gilbert and Sullivan.
In addition the Charity aims to provide a supportive group for members of the community who have an interest in Amateur Theatre regardless of protected characteristics: age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage or civil partnership status, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex and sexual orientation; and regardless of party political views or socio-economic status.
The Trustees have complied with their duty in section 4 of the Charities Act 2006 to have due regard to guidance on public benefit provided by the Charity Commission.
## ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFORMANCE
In September 2024, the Charity performed a concert version of Gilbert & Sullivan's _The Pirates of Penzance_ as part of Thornbury Arts Festival. In March 2025 the Charity ran four performances of Gilbert & Sullivan's _The Grand Duke_ at Clifton's Redgrave Theatre. The remainder of the financial year was taken up with the early part of preparations for four performances of Gilbert & Sullivan's _The Yeomen of The Guard_ scheduled for March 2026.

## FINANCIAL REVIEW
The Trustees have elected to prepare accounts on a receipts and payment basis under section 133 of the Charities Act 2011.
The Charity does not have a reserves policy in place.
None of the Charity's funds were in deficit during the year, whether materially or otherwise.

## INDEPENDENT EXAMINER'S REPORT TO THE TRUSTEES OF BRISTOL GILBERT & SULLIVAN OPERATIC SOCIETY
I report to the Trustees on my examination of the accounts of the above Charity ("the Trust") for the year ended 31[ st ] August 2025.
## **Responsibilities and basis of report**
As the Charity Trustees of the Trust, you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 ("the Act").
I report in respect of my examination of the Trust's accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination, I have followed the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.
## **Independent examiner's statement**
I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination (other than those disclosed below) which give me cause to believe that in, any material respect:
accounting records were not kept in accordance with section 130 of the Act or
the accounts do not accord with the accounting records
I have no other concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
