## **Section C Objectives and activities**

**Summary of the objects of the charity set out in its governing document**

Working with disadvantaged and disabled beneficiaries from Lancashire. Providing leisure and sporting activities as well as offering education and support for any issues they may be facing in life. Ride2Success likes to adopt a multi agency working approach helping individuals in a holistic manner meaning they achieve the greatest outcomes possible. 1. To promote for the benefit of young or disabled people, in Preston and the surrounding areas, the provision of facilities for horse riding in the interests of social welfare and with the object of improving the conditions of life of the said young or disabled people.

**TAR: Ride2Success**

March **2023**

2. To act as a resource for young people up to the age of 25 living in Preston and the surrounding areas by providing advice and assistance and organising programmes of physical, educational and other activities as a means of:

(a) advancing in life and helping young people by developing their skills, capacities and capabilities to enable them to participate in society as independent, mature and responsible individuals; (b) advancing education;

Ride2Success (R2S) offers horse riding and association, sports and physical activity programmes for disabled young people who live in Preston and the surrounding boroughs. It provides an environment where disabled young people can mix and socialise with their non-disabled peers, actively participating in sports activities and thereby developing their skills whether that be physical function, social skills or personal development.

The beneficiaries and volunteers have opportunities to attend training course and obtain accredited qualifications, for example, four of our disabled members, received recognised coaching qualifications and now help provide sport coaching within R2S. This is a big step and a method we will continue to use. It has boosted their confidence and skills and led **Summary of the main** to more independence in their personal life. Four of our disabled **activities undertaken for the** members have progressed from being participants to becoming Team **public benefit in relation to** Leaders and now lead sessions at R2S. **these objects (include within this section the statutory** The R2S environment allows its members to access and enjoy a range of **declaration that trustees have** sports activities at a level of their choice, whether it be for fun or to **had regard to the guidance** participate at a more competitive level, for example, some members have **issued by the Charity** developed their skills in a particular sport allowing them to compete not **Commission on public** only against other clubs. **benefit)** Volunteers gain expedience of working in a fun, creative and challenging environment with people who have physical and learning disabilities. They learn how to adapt activities enabling members with complex needs to access sport and use this experience to enhance their knowledge in their professions, for example, we have young volunteers who have progressed and are currently studying to become sports therapists, doctors, social workers and teachers.

Parents and carers of R2S members have an opportunity to socialise, discuss and exchange information regarding benefit entitlements, experiences and other suitable provision for their disabled children that may be available in the community. The sessions also allow them some respite.

R2S does not provide any grants.

We rely heavily on volunteers who do many things at R2S including providing sports coaching, providing 1 to 1 support to the beneficiaries. R2S would not exist without the skilled volunteer base.

You **may choose** to include further statements, where relevant, about:

- policy on grantmaking;

- policy programme related investment;

## Section D Achievements and performance

R2S has experienced incredible growth and progress during the 2022- **Summary of the main** 2023 period, further enhancing accessibility and inclusivity for disabled **achievements of the charity** young people in sports and leisure activities. The club has been **during the year** dedicated to promoting social inclusion and improving the quality of life for its members. The increase in requests for adapted sports activities from young people and other organisations is a testament to the club's growth and impact. This year, R2S has extended its program to carers, specifically young carers, providing them with much-needed respite and the opportunity to connect with other young people facing similar situations. This initiative was driven by our members and has been a tremendous success. Moreover, we have been developing coaches who will contribute to the broader community and potentially secure paid coaching positions with partnered agencies. Investing in our dedicated volunteers has allowed R2S to thrive from within, as some members have achieved accredited coaching qualifications and are now able to deliver services in the community. For instance, one of our long-standing volunteers has progressed from a Group Leader to become our Head Coach. Their journey highlights the growth and potential inherent in our organisation. Through the various opportunities provided by R2S, our members have grown in confidence, developed their physical skills, and even gained formal qualifications that contribute to their sense of independence. The club has gained recognition for delivering high-quality accessible sports programs, leading to an increasing demand for our services within and beyond our immediate club setting. Thanks to the support of grant-giving organisations, R2S has been able to offer sessions including horse riding and sports to those in need. Overall, this has been an incredibly successful year for R2S. Our members have not only enjoyed participating in activities they may not have otherwise had access to, but they have also experienced a genuine sense of achievement and inclusion. While we have adapted to online interactions and home exercise, being able to work face-to-face with the young people again and embark on new projects has been absolutely fantastic

## **Section E                    Financial review**

**Brief statement of the charity’s policy on reserves**

As a small charity we have little in the way of reserves. However we have managed to increase the reserve fund from £7000 - £8000 which will be used to maintain projects for a short period should we find funding hard to come by. In future R2S will look to have 50% of our annual expenditure in reserve but this will likely be a couple of years down the line.

**Details of any funds materially in deficit**

## **Further financial review details (Optional information)**

You **may choose** to include additional information, where relevant about:

- the charity’s principal sources of funds (including any fundraising);

R2S has received grant funding from the National Lottery and other local charities that have enabled us to move forward this year.

All expenditure has been spent on providing activities for beneficiaries, this has come in the way of facility hire, equipment and paying professional coaches to run the sessions.

- We have hired very minimal professional staff in order to provide some

- how expenditure has extra support to those groups that need it.

- supported the key objectives of the charity;

- investment policy and objectives including any ethical investment policy adopted.

**Respective** The charity's trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. **responsibilities of** The charity’s trustees consider that an audit was required for this year under **trustees and examiner** section 144 of the Charities Act 2011 (the Charities Act) and that an independent examination is needed. It is my responsibility to:

   - examine the accounts under section 145 of the Charities Act,

   - to follow the procedures laid down in the general Directions given by the Charity Commission (under section 145(5)(b) of the Charities Act, and

   - to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.

- **Basis of independent** My examination was carried out in accordance with general Directions given **examiner’s statement** by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from the trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a ‘true and fair’ view and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.

## **Independent examiner's statement**

In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention:

1. which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in, any material respect, the requirements:

   - to keep accounting records in accordance with section 130 of the Charities Act; and

   - to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with the accounting requirements of the Charities Act

   - have not been met; or

2. to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
