for the Year Ended 31 January 2023

The Trustees present their report for the charity for the year ended 31 January 2023. The Trustees have adopted the provisions of Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS L02 effective 1 January 2015).

OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES

Objectives and Aims

The Character Through Cricket Charity was registered with the Charity Commission as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation in February 2019 (Charity no. 1182262). The charity exists to promote the concept of Character Education wdelivers training to teachers, sports coaches and others to enable them to implement and deliver Character Education activity projects undertaken through the medium of sport.

The Charity's governing document establishes the CIO’s objects as follows:

Public benefit

The Trustees have referred to the guidance offered by the Charity Commission in reviewing aims and objectives and in planning activities. In particular, the Trustees consider how planned activities will contribute to the aims and objectives and to ensure that these activities are carried out for the public benefit by delivering services that are valued by our members and stakeholders, that activities will deliver benefit to wide sections of the public (and especially those who can benefit most) and to enable those who deliver Character Through Cricket projects to develop and adopt best practice.

ACHIEVEMENT AND PERFORMANCE

Charitable activities

At 31 January 2022 the Character Through Cricket Charity had yet to become operationally active. During the course of the year ending 31 January 2023, the charity updated its training materials, in partnership with the Antigua and Barbuda High Commission delivered training to the managers, coaches and tour members of the Antigua Under 19 cricket squad, provided support to the East Africa Character Development Trust and developed plans t produce a range of digital resources to be made available to UK cricket clubs, to UK schools and to sports and education charities and NGOs operating overseas.

FINANCIAL REVIEW

During the financial year no income was received and no expenditure was incurred. All of the activities undertaken during the financial year were provided pro bono by trustees and other volunteers.

PLANS FOR THE FUTURE

The most significant project to be undertaken in 2024 concerns the production and distribution of a series of podcasts / televised episodes featuring notable cricketers / cricketing enthusiasts in which they discuss the importance of positive character generally and one specific character quality from a list: Enthusiasm; Perseverance; Self-control; Optimism; Gratitude; Curiosity and Social Intelligence. These qualities are those that American psychologists have identified to be the best predictors of personal and professional success.

STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT

Governing document

The Character Through Cricket Charity is registered as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation and is governed by its Memorandum and Articles of Association. It is registered with the Charity Commission (registered number 1182262) and was established on 28 February 2019. Recruitment and appointment of new trustees

The Board of Trustees as a body has the power to appoint new Trustees. There must be a minimum of three at any one time in line with the Articles of Association.

It is with sadness that we report that in April 2023 trustee Simon Prodger died unexpectedly at far too young an age. Those who served as Trustees during the year were:

Robbie Book Nick Gandon Yasin Patel Simon Prodger (died in April 2023) Lonsdale Skinner

Organisational structure

The Trustees administer the Charity on an ongoing basis and meet at least three times a year to discuss the strategic direction of the charity and specific current issues .

Induction and training of new trustees

All new Trustees attend an induction Trustee Board Meeting where their roles are fully explained. They receive regular information about trustee training and, in the view of the Trustees, have enough knowledge of their specific field to understand the nature of the Charity and fully comply with the Charity's current views of its progression.

Equality of Opportunity

Character Through Cricket Charity is committed to a policy of equal opportunities for all employees and volunteers and to ensuring within the framework of the law that its workplaces are free from unlawful or unfair discrimination.

Risk management

The Trustees have assessed the major risks to which the Charity is exposed. As things currently stand there are none.
