Report of the Trustees

for the Year Ended 31 January 2020

The Trustees present their report for the charity for the year ended 31 January 2020. The Trustees have adopted the provisions of Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS L02 effective 1 January 2015).

OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES

Objectives and Aims

The Character Through Cricket Charity was registered with the Charity Commission as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation in February 2019 (Charity no. 1182262). The charity delivers training to teachers and sports coaches to enable them to deliver Character Education activity while also implementing and managing or supporting Character Education projects undertaken through the medium of sport.

The Charity's governing document establishes the CIO’s objects as follows:

Public benefit

The Trustees have referred to the guidance offered by the Charity Commission in reviewing aims and objectives and in planning activities. In particular, the Trustees consider how planned activities will contribute to the aims and objectives and they ensure that these activities are carried out for the public benefit by delivering services that are valued by our members and enable those with responsibility in the sector to develop and adopt best practice.

ACHIEVEMENT AND PERFORMANCE

Charitable activities

At 31 January 2022 the Character Through Cricket had yet to become operationally active, although during the course of the year a number of projects to be implemented in 2022 and 2023 were being planned.

FINANCIAL REVIEW

During the financial year income of £10,000 was received and no expenditure was incurred.

PLANS FOR THE FUTURE

In 2023 we aim to launch a Character through Cricket project to support young people from the black community in partnership with the ACE Programme, the Club Cricket Charity, the Afro-Caribbean Cricket Association and Wellington College in Berkshire and are in discussions with various other organisations and individuals about other potential projects.

STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT

Governing document

The Character Through Cricket Charity is registered as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation and is governed by its Memorandum and Articles of Association. it is registered with the Charity Commission (registered number 1182262) and was established on 28 February 2019. It does not have share capital, cannot pay dividends and must utilize its funds to further its stated charitable objectives.

Recruitment and appointment of new trustees

The Board of Trustees as a body has the power to appoint new Trustees. There must be a minimum of three at any one time in line with the Articles of Association.

Organisational structure

The Trustees administer the Charity on an ongoing basis and meet at least three times a year to discuss the strategic direction of the charity and specific current issues .

Induction and training of new trustees

All new Trustees attend an induction Trustee Board Meeting where their roles are fully explained. They receive regular information about trustee training and, in the view of the Trustees, have enough knowledge of their specific field to understand the nature of the Charity and fully comply with the Charity's current views of its progression.

Equality of Opportunity

Character Through Cricket Charity is committed to a policy of equal opportunities for all employees and volunteers and to ensuring within the framework of the law that its workplaces are free from unlawful or unfair discrimination.

Risk management

The Trustees have assessed the major risks to which the Charity is exposed. As things currently stand there are none.
