## **Public Benefit**

The Trustees confirm that they have given due consideration to the Charity Commission published

guidance on the public benefit requirement under the Charities act 2011.

During the period of review the charity has tried to continue to recruit unpaid volunteers to be trained to deliver the services outlined within the context of Brighton and Hove, and the surrounding areas, as well as preparing the office space in a way that preserves individual confidentiality along with both volunteer and service user safety. Sadly there is definitely a shortage of volunteers these days which if continues could lead to the closure of the Charity in the coming year.

Initial funding came from The Rainbow Fund (registered number 1181116) when it was originally set up the last couple of years we have had additional funding from grants by Brighton and Hove City Council.

## **Achievements and Performance**

The Charity recruited and trained and retained some Fifteen 8 unpaid volunteers to help

deliver the charities services on a rotational shift basis. On average volunteers worked, in pairs, for

three hours per week each covering opening times at the hub. Training included the following

aspects over the period:

dealing with clients in a supportive and confidential manner

dealing with difficult situations and/or clients who may present with a variety of issues including

substance abuse

general training on matters relating to social disadvantage such as homelessness, (food) poverty and

health promotion, and issues specifically affecting the LGBTQ+ community such as trans gender

awareness

structured discussions with other local service providers, and charities, about the issues facing

potential service users

health and safety training within a public facing environment

The Rainbow Hub volunteers established a programme to meet service providers and understand

the services offered and performed by local charities to enable them to better signpost as and when

appropriate. In addition, volunteers ‘buddied up’ with representatives of the service providers in

order to better develop working relationships.

The office space is now in The Ledward Centre which is an LGBTQ+ local hub in Brighton offering a arrange of support services

Social media and press advertising have been used to bring local awareness.
