Objectives and activities

Summary of the objects of the charity set out in its governing document

To promote the objects of the Riding for the Disabled Association a charity registered under charity number 244108 by providing disabled people with the opportunity to ride and/or carriage drive to benefit their health and wellbeing in the High Peak and North Derbyshire Area

In planning our activities for the year we kept in mind the Charity Commission’s guidance on public benefit at our trustee meetings. The main activities are as follows: Providing riding therapy

Enabling riders to take part in Regional and National Riding competitions

Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects

Riding benefits disabled people by delivering physical and mental benefits develops self-confidence and improves communication and social skills, . We welcome all disabled people regardless of personal background, faith, gender or personal circumstances.

Additional details of objectives and activities (Optional information)

We are grateful for the many hours our volunteers and coaches have spent encouraging and working with our riders.

Without this valuable contribution of time, energy, and expertise we would not have been able to achieve so much.

We are also very grateful to Dave and Louise Thompson, without their boundless enthusiasm and hard work we would be unable to function.

We have completed works on our Indoor arena and this has been a wonderful addition to the group. It enables our riders and volunteer protection from the vagaries of the Buxton weather and we have as a result of this larger space increased the number of sessions that we offer thereby increasing our rider numbers.

Achievements and performance

Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year.

The Helen Atkin Group has expanded and has offered more rides this year than in any previous year. We have added a new Disabled loo, an office and a kitchen plus a meeting room bought to our new Indoor riding Arena with a generous donation from Circular 1 Health and support from Sport England. With a grant from RDA, we also had a hoist fitted to enable wheelchair users to mount with ease and dignity.

Helen Atkin RDA entered 13 riders into the Regional Qualifiers for the National Countryside Challenge and rider Niamh qualified for and competed in the National Countryside Challenge Championships.
