## **Mundesley Surf Lifesaving Club**

## **Charity Status – CIO 1182164**

Trustees – Julie Coleman (chair), Ryan Callaby (Vice chair), Ian Fredericks (Treasurer), Eleanor Jones, Sarah Hunter (as of 08.10.22), Mark Gray (as of 08.10.22) and Sue Brockhouse (as of 08.10.22)

## **Annual Report**

During this year we saw all previous restrictions of C19 guidelines lifted for outside sports clubs. The focus of the year was to give seniors the training and experience in the sport, to create a new bank of coaches and water safety cover so we can develop all squads.

We achieved this by focusing on senior training and creating a group for people completely new to the sport and who had never surfed. This group, focused on core skills and confidence with the aim of then including them into the main seniors training. This was hugely successful, and five out of the group, at the beginning of 2023, trained as Nipper (7-11 years) coaches, and obtained their tube rescue safety award.

In June 2022 we managed to secure, a swim slot at the local leisure centre, to enable us to pilot a senior swim training session. We agreed that participants would contribute to the cost of the pool hire, but as swimming is the fundamental skill of surf lifesaving, it was agreed that swimming was something the charity should subsidise for its members, for both the development of the sport at club level, the training of future lifeguards to provide water safety within club and to create employment opportunities with the RNLI.

## **Trustees**

In October 2022, the trustees voted in and welcomed 3 new trustees, each who bring a fantastic range of skills to complement the existing trustees. Sarah Hunter, Susan Brockhouse and Mark Gray. Sarah has many years’ experience as a school governor, and is a local business woman. Sue is a very experience athlete and coach, and has been an Ofsted inspector and Early Years Advisor, and Mark has lived by the sea and surfed for his whole life, and runs his family business with in the village of Mundesley.

## **Membership**

At the close of 2022 our total membership across all sections was 78. This shows very little growth from 2021. Without the development and training of water safety and leaders, the ability to increase membership is impossible.

## **Nipper Age 7-12**

21 Nipper members - this figure remains the same as 2021

## **Youth Age 13-18**

18 Youth member - this figure saw a decline of 2 from 2021

## **Senior Age 18 and over**

39 senior members - this figure shows an increase of 5

What we saw within all sections during this year was the skill set, fitness and confidence of participants increase.

## **Competition**

This years beach sessions concluded with the Eastern region surf lifesaving competition. This year was the first year that the competition was a national event and officiated by Surf Lifesaving great Britian. 39 of our members entered this event supported by an army of 9 volunteers. This is our chance to showcase our sport and to put all out training in to practice. We can a great day and came away with overall 2[nd] place.

## **Volunteers**

Of our – volunteers we have

- 11 requalified as beach lifeguards, who provide the water safety for club sessions

- 8 level 1 coaches – The Level 1 coaches role is to assist with the delivery of training sessions under the guidance of a Level 2 coach

- 8 Level 2 coaches - The level 2 coach, is responsible for the overall running of a session. Ensuring policies are adhered to, safety cover is adequate, and risk assessments are complete

- 7 trustees

## **Finance**

We are in a good financial position, with a total funds of £202,766. We continue to follow our policy of using regular income and fundraising for our day to day running costs and using our reserves from bequests for capital purchases of new equipment, swimming pool hire.

Outside of our own policy on how we spend money, we do not have any restricted funds at present. During this year we spent £25,089 on equipment and a new storage container.

See attached finance report for further breakdown of figures. Our books are annually audited by an independent examiner.
