prepared in accoidance wilh the accounting policies sel out in the notes to the financial slalernents and comply with
the chaiills Memorandum and Articles of Association, applicable laws and the requirements of the Slalement ol
Recotnmended Practise applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting
Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland IFRS 102) issued In October 2019.
Objectlv•$ and activltles
The Foundation 8ims lo support causes that help individuals and benelit the local ¢ommunily, including support for
young peopl8 fiom disadvantaged backgrounds. the homeless, those wilh mental health issues and people wilh
physical disabilities, injury or life lirniling illnesse5.
In shaping the objectives of the organlsalion, the Iruslees have paid due regard lo th& Charity Commission's
guidance on public benefil.
Investment policy
Under the trust deed the Foundation has the power to make any inv6slmenls whith the Iruslees shall in their
absolute discretion think fil.
Grant maklng
The Foundation inviles appli¢alions for funding of local charitable causes. In particular, the Foundation welcomos
applicants that are helping lo improvè welfare and quality of life ol those that are disadvantaged wilhin the
community.
The applications 8re reviewed by the truste6s and funds made available at the absolute discretion of the
Foundation.

Charltable activities
During the year the Foundation primarily supp)rted local causes including schools, community groups, sportlng
groups. social and community events, rotary clubs and registered charities.
There are also a number of organisalions the charily sUPPOrts on a regular long-lem) basis.

Principal funding sourcès
During the year the Foundation primarily received corporale donations of £1,807,000 whid) can be used in
ac¢ordance with Ihe objectives of the charity.
The dona14.on was used by the Foundation lo fund grant payments and Telaled costs amounting lo £2,112,907. The
nel resources expended in tha yèar resulted in available year-end funds decreasing from £2,831,523 to £2,654,586.
Rèserves policy
11 is the policy ol the Foundation lo maintain unreslricled funds, which arè the free reserves of the foundation al
level which enables the Foundation lo meet its management and adminislralion costs and lo be able lo respond lo
approved appliealions for grants which arise from time lo lime.

The Foundation's fuluie plans are lo continue to support causes Ihal help benefit th8 local community including
support for young people from disadvantaged ba¢kgiounds, the homeless and those with mental health issues.

In auditing the finanGial slalèmènls, wè have concluded thal the Trustees. use of the going concern basis ol
accounting in the preparation of the financial statements is appropriate.
Based on the work we have performed. we have not identified any material uncertainties relating to events or

We discussed with the trustees and other management the policies and procédures fegarding compliance with laws

The charity is subject lo laws and regulations that dirèctly affecl the financial statements, including financial
reporting and laxalion legislation together with othar operational aspects such as health and safely. employment law
and requiremen15 under the General Data ProleclioD Regulation. We assess the exlenl ol compliance with these
laws and iegulations as part of our audit proceduies. The potential effect ol these laws and regulations on thè
rinancial slalemenls varies considerably.

Charity Information
The Shanly Foundation is a private company limited by guarantee incorporated in England and Wales. Thè
registered office Is Sorbon, Aylesbury End. Beaconslield, Buckinghamshire, HP9 1 LW, United Kingdom.
1.1 A¢¢ountlng conventlon
The financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the Charities.. Statement of Recommended
Practice applicable lo charilies preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Rèporting Standard
applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland IFRS 1021 (issued in October 20191- (Charities SORP {FRS
1021. the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic ol Ireland IFRS 1021 and the
Cornpanies Act 2006.
The Foundation constitutes a publi¢ enlily as defined by FRS102.
1.2 Going concern
Al the tiTne of approving the financial slalernenls. the Iwstees have a reasonable expectation that the
Foundation has adequate resources to continue in operational existènce lor Ihe foreseeable lulure. The
Foundation therefore continues to adopt the going concern basis in preparing its financial slalemenls.
1.3 Fund accounting
Funds held by the Foundation are unrestricted income funds, which the trustees are free lo use tor any
purpose in furtheian¢e ol thè charitable objects.
1.4 Income
All income is recognised when the Foundation 18 legally enlllled lo il after any performance conditions have
been mel, the amounts ¢an be measured reliably, and il is probable th81 ineome will be received.
Donations are recognised when they have been communicated as received in writing with nolificalK)n ol both
the amounl and selllemenl dale. In the event that a donation is subject lo oonditions that require a level ol
P8rformance before the charity Is enlilled to the funds, the income is deferred and not iecognised unlil either
those Conditions are lully mel, or the fullilmènl ol those conditions is wholly within the ¢ontrol of the
Foundation and il is probable that Ihose conditions will be fulfilléd in the reporting period.
Interest on funds held on deposit is included upon nolificalion ol thè interest paid or payable by the bank.
1.5 Expenditure
Expenditure is accounted for on an accruals basis and has been classified under headings that aggregate all
cost related lo the eategory. Liabilities are recognised as expenditure as soon as there is a legal or
constructive obligation ¢ommitting the Foundation lo that expenditure, il is probable that selllemenl will be
required and the amount of the obligation can be measured reliably.
All expenses, including 5UPPOrt costs and governance are allocated or apportioned to the applicable
expendituré headings in the slalemenl of finanei81 activities.
Irrecoverable VAT is charged as a cost against the activity for which the activily was incurred.
Grants payable are payrnenls mad& lo third parts'es in the furtherance of the Charitable objectives of the Irusl.
Grants payable are charged in the year when the ofFeY is conveyed lo the iecipient èxcèpt those cases where
thè offer is conditional, such grants being recognised as expenditure when the conditions attached are
fulfilled. Grant awards that are 5ubjecl lo the rseipiènt fulfilling performance conditions are only aecrued when
Ihe reoipient ha5 bèen notified of the grant and any remaining unfulfilled conditions allached lo th81 grant are
outside of the control ol the Foundation.

1.6 Cash and cash equivalents
Cash at bank and oash in hand includes cash and short term hKJhly liquid investments that arè rèadily
convertible lo known amounls of cash and are subject lo an insignificant risk to changes in valtJ&.
1.7 Financial instruments
The Foundation only has financial assets and financial liabilities ol a kind thal qualify as basic financial
inslrumenls. Basic financial instruments ale initially recognised al Iransa¢lion value and subsequently
measured al amortised cost using the effective interest malhod.
1.8 Dèbtors
Trade d&btors and olhei deblors are recognised al Ihts selllernenl amount due after any trade discount
offered.
Prepayments are valued at the amount prepaid nel of any trade discount due.
1.9 Credltors and provlsions
Creditors and provisions are ieoognised where the Foundation has a present obligation resulting from a past
event thal will probably resutt in the transfer ol funds to that third party and the arnounl due to settle the
obligation can be rneasured or eslirnated reliably. Crèditois and provision are normally recognised al Ihoir
settlement amount after allowing lor any trade discounts due.
1.10 Taxation
The Foundation is a registerèd charity and accordingly is exempt from laxalion on Ils income and gains where
they are applied for charitable purposes.
1.11 Retirèmènt benefits
The Foundation operates a defined contrib¢Jlion penslon scherne. Contributions payable to Ihe charitable
company's pension scheme are charged to the Slalemenl ol Financial Activities in the pariod to which they
relate.
1.12 Charitable activltiès
The expendilure on charitab16 aCtiMI(es includes grants made, govemaneè c051s and support costs.
1.13 M•mber5 liability
The liability of the members is limited lo a sum of £10 bèing the amount that each member undertakes to
contribute to thè assèts of the charity in the event of thè Foundation being wound up.
Critical accounting ostlmat•s and judgements
In the application of the charity'5 accounting policies, the Iruslees are required lo make judgements, estimates
and assumplions about the carrying amount of assets and liabilities that are not readily apparent from other
sources. The e51imales and associated assumption5 are based on historical experience and other factOTS that
ale wnsideied to be relevant. Actual results may diffei from these estimates.
The eslirnales and underlying assumptions are reviewed on an ongoing basis. Revisions lo accounting
eslirnales are recognised in the period in which the estimate is rèvised where the revision affects only that
period, or in the period ol the revision and future peritsd5 where the revision affects both current and futur6
periods.
