## **Section C Objectives and activities**

The objects of the CIO are:

The prevention or relief of poverty or financial hardship in Nairobi, Kenya by providing or assisting in the provision of education, training, health care projects and all the necessary support designed to enable individuals to generate a sustainable income and be self-sufficient.

Summary of activities undertaken for the public benefit.

The trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit in the carrying out of their duties for the charity.

The main activity of the charity this year was to raise funds for our washroom project in the Kibera slum and to remotely support our partners in progressing this project. We have also fund raised for the Kibera Saints organisation and have remotely supported them in delivering a drug rehabilitation project for youth in the slum.

The Corona virus travel restrictions have meant that it has not been possible for the trustees to make a visit to Kenya this year. We have maintained contact with our partners in Nairobi via the Internet and hope to be able to start up visits to Kenya later this year.

## **Section D Achievements and performance**

This is the second year of operation of the charity and income is much improved over the first year.

The washroom project that we started at the end of last year has seen good progress and we raised sufficient funds through the first half of the year to allow us to instruct our partners to proceed. We have given them a grant that enabled them to purchase a plot of land in the Kibera slum and they are currently obtaining estimates for the build of the washroom.

We are also supporting a drug rehabilitation project being run in the slum to allow them to start a small business to provide work experience for the attendees and grants for the staff.

## **Section E Financial review**

The charity runs on a zero fixed costs basis with no administrative overheads or other ongoing costs. All funds are directed to our work in Kibera with work in the UK being carried out by volunteers. Because of this we do not need to hold significant reserves and the policy is to not to have an overdraft.

The trustees aim to keep costs as low as possible; Totalgiving is used for fundraising as they do not charge and Transferwise for financial transfers to Kenya as they have the lowest overall cost. The bank account is held with HSBC who make no charge. Web hosting and design is provided at no charge through a trustee’s business and the charity is operated from home.
