Chairs Report
It has been a privilege to be chair of Warsash u3a for the last 2 years and
8lthough I know I haven't always got it right, I hope that I have been mostly
successful in my duties. Atthough I was reluctant at first. I have enjoyed my
time. which has mostly run smoothly. thanks to the dedication and support
of the committee, who have worked so hard together. respecting each
other and contributing ideas to make a great team. We must rernember,
th8t we are all volunteers. as committee members or group teaders and we
do our best to make Warsash Lb38 run successfully.
Warsash u3a has a reputation locally. of beingvery friendly. notjust to
newcomers, but also to established members. This, is thanks to the
mernbership. as well as everythingwe have to offer. and is the reason for
our growth.
Everyyear we loose some members. forvarious reasons, however, we have
once again grown by 8pproximately 10%. We've come a longway from
when Warsash u3a started 9 years ago. The number of groups and activities
that we now provide, is about 40, and is of such a diverse range. but these
couldn't happen withoutthe enthusiasm of our members, who run the
groups and supportthem.
We have too manygroups to mention individually, but there is somethingto
interest everyone.
Our groups range from Art. card & tile games. craft. books, walking and
physical activities, Skywatching, gardening, languages. current aff8irs.
music, theatre. photography. wine tasting & meals out, to mention but a
few. However not all activities are home based. The travet group has had
several mini breaks this year. which everyone enjoyed. havingfvn together.
The bus group has explored the surrounding area with days out and visits to
places of interest. A longer trip was to the Houses of Parliament, what an
interesting day that was. There was a visit to the RNLI Headquarters at
Poole. again a very interesting day out and the Family HistoryGroup went to
the Hampshire Records Office.

One ofthe highlights ofthe year was the Burns Lunch. We had never done a
large self catering event previously. but it was a huge success. I hope we
can do similar events in the future.
We have had a fantastic range of speakers this year. inctuding a talk by one
of our own members. Our thanks go to Catherine and Jennyfor arranging
these speakers each month.
This is what the u3a is all about. sharing skills and knowtedge in a relaxed.
fun and friendly environment.
I have been on the committee in various roles. almost since l joined
Warsash u3a in 2017.1 now lookforward to enjoying everythingwe have to
offer without responsibilities.
I wish the new committee everysuccess in the future. I'm sure Wars8sh
u3a will continue to flourish undertheir leadership.
It just remains for me to thank everyone. most sincerely, foryour support
and encouragement, during my time as Chair of Warsash u3a.
Bestwishes.
Judith
