## **Annual Report** 

1.  St. Andrew’s Parochial Church Council (PCC) has the responsibility of cooperating with the incumbent, the Reverend Jonathan Brown, in promoting in the ecclesiastical parish, the whole mission of the Church, pastoral, evangelistic, social and ecumenical. 

## **Objectives and Activities** 

2.  In 2020 we continued the work from 2019 with three key activities: Christian worship and outreach; promoting community across faith groups and wider society; and support for the acute societal problems present in our local community.  As with many churches and other enterprises, Covid had a profound impact on our ability to deliver these activities; and forced us to respond. 

a. _Christian worship and outreach in and beyond St Andrew’s Church._ Covid constrained our efforts this year. Church was closed for public worship for part of the year.  Sunday services were recorded and streamed. Service booklets delivered to those known to be without internet.  Maintained the fabric of the building. Windows replaced in the nave.  Dais carpet replaced using a local provider. 

b. _Events to promote community across faith groups and wider society._ Collaborated with other community organisations in establishing Earslfield Together street network, which provided a point of call during lockdowns for anyone in need in every street in the parish. 

c _.  Support for the acute societal problems present in our local community._ St Andrew’s provided a new home for the Earlsfield Foodbank, installing a portakabin to provide storage. Numbers using Foodbank increased five-fold from 25 per week to 125.  Home Community Cafe transformed into a community kitchen, cooking for NHS workers, a local school, a homeless shelter, and households without access to hot food.  Volunteers serving Foodbank and Cafe drawn both from church community and wider parish. 

## **Financial Review** 

3.  Our main income was from the rental of the Parish Hall space to the Chelsea Group (£45,346.16). The second line of income is public donation whereby a mixture of monthly standing order and service collection that accounted for £28,989. Our third line of income is from renting out the church spaces to groups such as yoga and children’s group (£1,375). 

4.  If we collect money for a specific project then there is a designated or restricted fund for the project. All the monies in and out of such funds are recorded on a separate ledger to the general funds. 

## **Volunteers** 

5.  It would prove impossible to recognise each individual who has contributed to the work of St Andrew’s in 2020, but we must pay tribute to the work and dedication of Dave Pratt, who retired as Churchwarden after many years’ service. Many others made valuable contributions to our Christian worship, community promotion, and support for acute societal problems.  Especially in 2020 owing to the impact of Covid. 

## **Structure, governance and management** 

6.  The PCC members are responsible for making decisions on all matters of general concern and importance to the parish including deciding on how the funds of the PCC are to be spent.  The full PCC met online in 2020. 

7.  The method of appointment of PCC members is set out in the Church Representation Rules. At St. Andrew’s the membership of the PCC consists of the incumbent, churchwardens, the reader and members elected by those members of the congregation who are on the electoral roll of the church. All those who attend our services / members of the congregation are encouraged to register on the Electoral Roll and stand for election to the PCC.

## **Safeguarding** 

The PCC has complied with the duty under section 5 of the Safeguarding and Clergy Discipline Measure 2016 (duty to have regard to House of Bishops’ guidance on safeguarding children and vulnerable adults). 

## **Administrative information** 

8.  St. Andrew’s Church is situated in Earlsfield in SW London.  It is part of the Diocese of Southwark within the Church of England. 

9.  PCC members in 2020 were: Rev Jonathan Brown (chair), Benet Northcote (vice-chair), Dave Pratt (churchwarden), Rev Johnny Sertin, Lisa Davis, Marion Endicott, Susan Kent, Cherreem Lindsay, Viv Snell (Reader), Hannah Swithinbank, Lynda Thomas, Andrew Thomson.  Viv Snell and Hannah Swithinbank were deanery synod reps. 

10.  During the course of 2020, Dave Pratt, Marion Endicott and Hannah Swithinbank stood down, and Alex Fry (churchwarden), Paul Mitchell (deanery synod), Alex Chamberlen, Meg Fry and Jude Nayer were elected [two of them filling vacancies from previous years]. Irene Lau (treasurer) was co-opted.

## **Fabric Report** 

2020 was a busy year!  As the first signs of Covid-19 were coming into view, we were told that the West End windows were no longer safe - they had broken away from their supporting struts.  Fortunately, we were able to get scaffolding up and a company to take them away for repair just as lockdown was starting. Unfortunately, the pandemic meant that getting the repairs done took much longer than anticipated.  There was - amongst other things - a national shortage of lead. Eventually, the new windows were reinstalled and we are sure you will all agree that they look splendid. The good news is that the costs for this was covered by our insurance. 

The other big ticket item was replacing the boilers for the central heating.  It is hard to believe that they have been working hard for so many years that it was time to replace them, but they had given up and were beyond repair, despite regular servicing.  This was a cost we had to meet ourselves, unfortunately, but it was essential maintenance. 

Hopefully, 2021 will give us the opportunity to repair our finances a bit, if we can avoid any large expenses.

## **Electoral Roll Report** 

On 23 April 2021 there were 84 people on the Electoral Roll. 

## **Report on the Proceedings of the Deanery Synod** 

Due to the pandemic, the Synod met twice. In February, each parish made a presentation on The Mission of God in Wandsworth – 5 minutes on the impact and importance of one of the Deanery Mission matters on the life of the church. In November, Hannah Rich from Theos gave a presentation on The GRA:CE Project, a study, based on three years of research on the relationship between church growth, discipleship and social action in the Church of England.

This report on the finanaal ststements of the PCC for the year ended 31 De￿rnber 2020 is
in respect of an examination carried out in accordance with the Church Accounting
Regulations 2(K16 (the Regulation￿) and section 145 of the Charities Art 2011 ('the AcY}.

As members of the PCC you are responsible for the preparation of the financtal statements.
You consider that the audit requirement of the Regulations and section 144(2) of the Act do
not apply. ft is my responsibility to issue this report on those financial statements in
accordance with the tem75 of the Regulations.
Basis of this Re
ort
My examination was carried out in accordance with the General Directions given by the
Charity Commission under section 145151(bl of the Act and to be found in the Church
Guidance, 2006 edition, issued by the finance Division of the Archbishop￿ Council. That
examination include5 a revtew of the accounting records kept by the PCC and a comparison
of the accounts with those records.
It also includes considering any unusual items or disclosures in the financial statements and
seeking explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters.
The prO￿dureS undertaken do not provide all the eviden￿ that would be required in an
audit, and consequently I do not express an audit opinion on the view given by the accounts.

In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attentlon:
l) which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the
requirements..
to keep accounting records in accordance with section 130 of the Act; and
to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply
with the requirement of the Att and the Regulations have not been met: or
2) to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper
understanding of the accounts to be reached.
