The trustees have pleasure in presenting their report and accounts for the year ended 31st March 2022.

Structure, governance and management

The organisation is a charitable company limited by guarantee, incorporated and registered as a charity on 7th February 2019.

The company was established under a Memorandum of Association which established the objects and powers of the charity and is governed under its Articles of Association.

The chair of trustees, who is the trustee for the purpose of charity law, who served during the year and up to the date of this report is set out on page 1.

Objects

The objects of the charity are:

The advancement of the Orthodox Christian Religion in general and through the establishment and furtherance of a parish in the City of Durham.

The main activities pertain to the advancement of the Orthodox Christian Religion in general and through the

establishment and furtherance of a parish in the City of Durham, by way of regular liturgical worship and the

refurbishment of the new Church building.

Financial review

Total incoming resources for the year amounted to £39,575 (2021 £108,244), with total resources expended of

£5,512 (2021 £1,948), resulting in net incoming resources of £34,063 (2021 £106,296).

This report has been prepared in accordance with the Statement of Recommended Practice - Accounting and Reporting by Charities (FRS 102), taking advantage of the concessions provided by the SORP for smaller charities, and in accordance with the provisions for small companies under Part 15 of the Companies Act 2006.

The report was approved by the board on 30th August 2022.

For the year ending 31st March 2022 the company was entitled to exemption from audit under section 477 of the Companies Act 2006.

The members have not required the company to obtain an audit in accordance with section 476 of the Companies Act 2006.

The trustees acknowledge their responsibilities for:

a) ensuring that the company keeps proper accounting records which comply with Sections 386 and 387 of the Companies Act 2006 and

b) preparing accounts which give a true and fair view of the state of affairs of the company as at the end of each financial year and of its profit or loss for each financial year in accordance with the requirements of Sections 394 and 395 of the Companies Act 2006, and which otherwise comply with the requirements of this act relating to accounts, so far as applicable to the company.

The financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the provisions of Part 15 of the Companies Act 2006 relating to small companies.

1. ACCOUNTING POLICIES

Basis of accounting

The accounts have been prepared under the historical cost convention and in accordance with the provisions of Section 1A "Small Entities" of Financial Reporting Standard 102 "The Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland" and the Companies Act 2006 and follow the recommendations in Accounting and Reporting by Charities : Statement of Recommended Practice (SORP FRS 102), taking advantage of the concessions provided by the SORP for smaller charities.

Incoming resources

All incoming resources are included in the Statement of Financial Activities when the charity becomes entitled to the resources, the trustees are virtually certain they will receive the resources and the monetary value can be measured with sufficient reliability.

Expenditure and liabilities

Resources expended are recognised in the period in which they are incurred. Resources expended include attributable VAT which cannot be recovered.

Fund accounting

Unrestricted funds are donations and other incoming resources receivable or generated for the objects of the charity without further specified purpose and are available as general funds.

Designated funds are unrestricted funds earmarked by the trustees for particular purposes.

Restricted funds are to be used for specific purposes as laid down by the donor. Expenditure which meets this criteria is charged to the fund.

Costs of generating funds

Costs of generating funds are those costs incurred in attracting voluntary income, or incurred in trading activities undertaken to raise funds.

Report to the trustees/ Charity Name members of The Orthodox Church of St Cuthbert and St Bede, Durham On accounts for the year 31[st] March 2022 Charity no 1181914 ended (if any) I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of the above charity (“the Trust”) for the year ended 31/03/2021. Responsibilities and As the charity's trustees, you are responsible for the preparation of the basis of report accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (“the Act”).

I report in respect of my examination of the Trust’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination, I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.

Independent I have completed my examination. My examination included a review of the examiner's statement accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also included consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from you as charity trustees concerning any such matters.
