Structure and governance
The charity was created on 4th February 2019 and is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation.
Objectives and activities
The charity was formed by the trustees Mr and Mrs Birshan as a grantmaking charity, and makes grants to a variety of charities which come to the attention of the trustees.
In 2024, the charity has made grants throughout the year to a range of charities and causes. In 2024 the majority of donations were towards causes which improve the wellbeing of women, children and families in the UK, and charities which support education and the arts in the UK. Approximately 15% of donations were to UK charities where Mr or Mrs Birshan sits on the board.
No trustee receives remuneration or reimbursement of expenses. The charity has no staff costs, administration costs or overheads except for the cost of the Independent Examination.
Speculative applications to the charity are unlikely to be successful.
Public benefit statement
The trustees declare that they have complied with the duty to ensure that activities follow the Charity Commission’s guidance on public benefit.
Sources of Income
The charity was funded by Mrs Birshan personally, plus a donation from Google UK.
Financial overview
At the end of the 2024 financial year, the charity had a small amount of unspent funds which will be used for grants in future years. There is no reserves policy.

Sophie Birshan is also a trustee of The Nina and Roger Stewart Charitable Trust, and The Wallace Collection (a charity exempt from registration under the Charities Act 2011).
Michael Birshan is also a governor at The British Film Institute, and a member of the council at the Royal College of Art (an exempt charity).

THE BIRSHAN CHARITABLE TRUST Independent examlner's report to the Trustees of The Birshan Charitable Trust I report to the trustees on my examination of the Receipts and Payments Accounts of The Birshan Charitable Trust (the Trust) for the year ended 31 $1 December 2024 which are set out on pages 1 to 2. Responsibilities and basis of report As the charity trustees of the Trusl, you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance wtth the requirements of the Charities Act 20111'the Act'}. I report in respect of my examination of the Trustee's accounts Carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145151{bl of the 2011 Act. Independent examine5 ststement I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe Ihat in any material respect.. {1) accounting records were not kept in respect of the Trust as required by section 130 ofthe Act., or (2} the accounts do not accord with those records.
