It has been operating continuously since that date. The Registered Office of the CIO is: 61 London Road Maidstone Kent. ME16 8TX ## **TRUSTEES/DIRECTORS TO THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE** The trustees who served the Charity during the year were: Sarah Mitchell Warren Beeby Alexander Royffe ## **INDEPENDENT EXAMINER** It was proposed that Levicks Accountants be re-appointed as independent examiners of the CIO. ## **STRUCTURE AND GOVERNANCE** CA London is guided by CA’s 12 Traditions and 12 Concepts. The structure and Governance of the CIO is laid out in its constitution. Members wishing to volunteer to sit on the board of trustees present themselves at CA London’s area assembly meeting for election to the position. ## **MISSION STATEMENT** CA London is a fellowship of men and women that share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others recover from their addiction. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop using cocaine and all other mind-altering substances. There are no dues or fees for membership; we are fully self- supporting through our own contributions. We are not affiliated with any sect, denomination, politics, organisation or institution. We do not wish to engage in any controversy, and we neither endorse nor oppose any causes. Our primary purpose is to stay clean from cocaine and all other mind-altering substances, and to help others achieve the same freedom. We use the twelve steps of recovery because it has already been proven that the twelve step recovery programme works. CA London has in excess of 100 meetings throughout the London area, providing direct help and support to people suffering with addiction. Each CA group is an autonomous entity, is fully self- supporting and declines outside contributions. CA London does not accept donations from organisations or individuals outside the Fellowship of CA London. CA London has subcommittees that carry a recovery message in to Hospitals and Institutions; and relay information to the public and to health and legal professionals. CA London is concerned solely with the personal recovery and continued sobriety of individual drug addicts who turn to the fellowship for help. It does not engage in the fields of drug addiction research, medical or psychiatric treatment, education, or propaganda in any form, although members may participate in such activities as individuals. **PAGE 2** ## **CA LONDON** ## **TRUSTEES REPORT FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 DECEMBER 2022 continued** The Fellowship of CA London has adopted a policy of "cooperation but not affiliation" with outside organisations concerned with the problem of addiction. CA London never endorses, supports, becomes affiliated with or expresses an opinion on the programmes of others in the field of addiction. CA London has no position on outside issues including the legality or illegality of drugs or any other public policy. ## **PUBLIC BENEFIT** The Fellowship of CA London reaches out to the still suffering addict to help them find recovery from the disease of addiction. When members find recovery and abstain from using cocaine and all other mind-altering substances there is an enormous benefit not only to themselves but to their families and the public at large. CA London is not affiliated to any other organisation or institution and makes no charge for its services. Its services are available without restriction to whoever is in need and are therefore truly publicly available. Being non-affiliated leaves the Fellowship of CA London free to provide its services in the most beneficial way to its members while preserving anonymity and confidentiality, In this way the Fellowship of CA London is able to deliver its message in the most effective and positive way, maximising the benefit to both its members and the public. The trustees of CA London have complied with the duty under section 4 of the Charities Act 2006 to have due regard to the Charity Commission guidance on public benefit. The most important aspect of our organisation is anonymity. We preserve the anonymity of recovering addicts by not identifying them as members of CA London and by not using their names or full-face photographs in any facet of the media. While we welcome positive news items in the media concerning our fellowship, we are careful to avoid mention of specific personalities. CA London follows stringent processes to ensure the safe keeping of its funds. All financial transactions are documented and logged with the area treasurer. Prudent reserves are held by our district service committees that allow 3 months running costs. All monies held are used to help carry the message of recovery to current and prospective members of CA London. Alexander Royffe Trustee on behalf of the board of trustees 19 October 2023 **PAGE 3** ## **INDEPENDENT EXAMINER’S REPORT TO THE TRUSTEES OF** ## **CA LONDON** ## **FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 DECEMBER 2022** I report on the accounts of CA London for the period ended 31 December 2022 which comprise the receipts and payments account and statement of assets and liabilities set out on pages 4 to 5. ## _**Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner**_ The charity’s trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The charity’s trustees consider that an audit is not required for this period under section 144 of the Charities Act 2011 (“the Charities Act”) and that an independent examination is needed. It is my responsibility to: - examine the accounts under section 145 of the Charities Act; - to follow the procedures laid down in the general Directions given by the Charity Commission (under section 145(5)(b) of the Charities Act, and - to state whether particular matters have come to my attention. ## _**Basis of independent examiner’s statement**_ My examination was carried out in accordance with the general Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and the seeking of explanations from the trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a ‘true and fair’ view and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below. ## _**Independent examiner’s statement**_ In connection with my examination, no material matters have come to my attention which gives me cause to believe that in, any material respect: - the accounting records were not kept in accordance with section 130 of the Charities Act; or - the accounts did not accord with the accounting records; or - the accounts did not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and content of accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a ‘true and fair’ view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination.
